It appears that it is true that all first gen MBAs are locked at 0.8GHZ. I am really disappointed. Everything was fine in this machine up till today when I played two HD video game reviews one after the other and all the sudden the MBA was about to die

FWIW mine (SSD Gen 1) can go past 0.8GHz...it idles at 0.8 but can go up to 1.2GHz and stays there consistently...but it also reaches 1.8GHz for 2/3 seconds before dropping down to 1.2 again...sometimes it also touches 1.40GHz. So basically it fluctuates between 1.8/1.4/1.2GHz when doing something intensive.

I am not using Coolbook either

Is it possible to force it to stay at 1.8 with some software? It shouldn't void warranty.

Sure. But it'll lead to an overheat. And if your CPU explodes, it won't be covered because you used unofficial software =(
So wipe your HDD before you show 'em ^_^
