Had the same issue. Click-click-click-click-click... pause 10 seconds, then repeat.

It was the fan not working properly. Like they said above, I tapped 3 times pretty hard near the DELETE, \ and EJECT key, and the fan started right up.

The clicking noise stopped. :)

It clicks because of the clasp on the case!!!

I have found that I get the clicking when I set my macbook on top of my leather case. The beautiful leather case has a magnetic clasp (some of the other cases have this too). I think the magnetic clasp is interfering with the fan startup.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you guys with clicking Macbook Airs have cases with magnetic clasps or other magnets nearby?

I find I often set my computer on top of the case to provide for good airflow under it when I compute in bed, or on my lap. And I have not had the problem since I stopped using the case as a base.

(For those of you that say..."what! you put a magnet near your computer!" I will tell you that I bought the case at the apple retail store, it is a leather portfolio case that the MB Air slips into that has a magnet to hold it shut when you close the top flap of the leather case. I thought twice about the magnet, but my Air has a SSD (non magnetic storage) and no other magnetic storage... so I figured it would be ok)).

The same happens to me yesterday, i blow inside the air exits, and the fan start to work. it might be a little bit dirty in the fan.

Last time I got those clicking noises my smart status turned from good to bad. I'm out of warranty though so gotta hunt down a replacement drive myself:eek:

Just opened up a new MBAir with a SSD in it, so I knew it wasn't a hard drive noise. This was coming out of the middle of the keyboard, near the H and Y keys. I tapped hard on the aluminum above the 7 key pretty hard and all of a sudden I heard a fan kick on. Pretty funny, but sad that Apple has continued problems like this.

Quick and easy fix though, so not too bad.

Thank you all!

Hello all,

I just bought a new MBA today and have the click click click Fan sound.

I was so worried and then later on I read the posts here and fixed it.

By tapping the keys very hard didn't do the trick for me.

So I put the MBA standing vertically on a table, tapped where the click sound was couple of times using my fingers before the noise goes away.

I guess the fan was really stucked.

I hope this problem won't come back!!!

but thanks to all of you who have contributed.

I got my MBA for 2 days now. Everything works fine except I heard these randomly Click noise coming out from under the power button place every once a while . It only does it once everytime when it happens and the click sound goes less than a second. Is this suppose to be normal?
Thanks

Mine did it. Various other laptops I've had from various manufacturers did it. Some didn't. It's parking to save power I expect.

Mine does it too, I tapped real hard, almost a knock right by the power button and it stopped. So it is the fan not working?
