Great maybe the have no policies as I had to return it to Macmall.

no apple store should turn you down for service and support of your brand new apple product, regardless of where you bought it from - ever! i've never heard of this happening, nor have i experienced it myself. very strange indeed.

Totally. Also, I bet the non-return policy is Apple's as they want to know what's going wrong with their machines. As the OP found out, it is much faster to get warranty issues resolved at an Apple store. :)
