When the sabndybridge comes out u can expect it to be in the top range macbook pro series first not the air, it will slowly filter down the series much like the macbook pro 13 today still using c2d rather than the i5.

Early sample desktop units shows that the sandybridge is 2-3% faster than i7 in most situation expect 1..... starcraft2 boosted a 25% increase.

Since u mention about games quite a few times and seems like u can choke ur macbook pro i think u r going down the wrong path, notebooks no matter how awesome it is will never be able to handle intense graphics unless u want to turn down the details, not to mention osx isnt really that great for gaming. Look at those alienwares laptops that weights 7 kg with dual gpu and overclock i7 parts they still only do a decent job and abttery last less than 2 hrs.... do urself a favour and buy a gaming desktop if u want to game, the air is meant for ppl with the office jobs typing and browsing. :p

When your tax is 17.5% soon to be 20% ill start to feel sorry for you :)

But we are still being ripped off a further £120 on top of that tax btw

http://www.anandtech.com/show/3991/apples-2010-macbook-air-11-13inch-reviewed/10

here is Anand showing the difference between the C2D ULV and the new i7-640UM which is going to be superseded next yr and the difference is BIG the word "double" is thrown about.

maybe waiting for the Sandy ULV is a good option!

If it is truly 'double' then I will buy a new one. The 11.6" 'ultimate' that I have now is fantastic! It is not worth waiting for Sandy ULV (next year...who knows when?) since what is available NOW is such an improvement in portability and efficiency.

Could be just me, but I forgot about benchmarks and whatnot as soon as I bought my last MacBook.

If you're the sort of person that can't stand knowing that other machines are faster then maybe a MacBook of any kind is not your best bet.

I guess the issue i have is that the MBA 11 inch is £850 which is quite a bit for a netbook. which is basically what it is, an OSX netbook.

im going to see how cheap i can get one from my mate out in the far east.

im not paying UK prices, it might be worth picking one up for £625 though like the US price until the Sandy ULV arrives.

I am not the average mac user i am far more critical of the specs and tech inside than most.

i dont buy computers just because they are 'pretty'

2-3% lol

Anandtech has shown 23% on early engineering samples alone. they expect 17% clock for clock and the clocks will be higher due to 32nm process.

I own a gaming PC and a i7 MBP and just about every other worth while gadget.

Most mac users are easily pleased but i am not.

Heres hoping that apple get their fingers out their ass and get the new CPU's in the macbook range sooner rather than later.

its getting a joke paying top $ for old tech now.

i mean where the heck is my 3G on this ultraportables?

Don't forget the customs fees. You also forgot that the US price DOES NOT include taxes. It can be up to 8.25% depending on the state.

You can keep buying PCs if you're happier with them. No need to whine about everything.

if im going to have to pay through the nose id rather have the latest CPU which is due out early next yr.

anyone else waiting?

Have you considered that there's a chance that the next air will in fact use an AMD processor? Makes a hell of a lot of sense when you think about it. AMD CPU + Graphics. Plus AMD's next gen mobile platform is very power efficient.

Apparently they have been in talks, so you never know. They would keep using Intel CPU's for desktops no doubt.

ZOMG! Sue Apple due to their unfair pricing system  Life isn't always fair, learn to live with it. All Europeans pay more, yet most of us don't complain about it. You can always get a PC if you can't stand Apple's prices

Apple have to pay a variety of different fees to sell in the EU than they do in the US.

Get over it.

Lol where did you get this rubbish?

A product imported is subjected to the same fees as any other product.

Some apple products are the US price + VAT but the Air is US Price + VAT + £110.

Just fly to NYC, buy one, and then fly back - it's cheaper (with flight included)! :p

Well the plan is to get my mate out in Hong Kong to get one for me and ship it in so there is no VAT :)

Yeah, that could work too.

But I totally agree with you - Apple's prices in the UK (and Europe) are ridiculous. This is why I usually buy the expensive stuff in the US.

Thankfully I'm flying to Detroit in less than 2 weeks, so may buy one then :)

Well i agree

but apparently there are a ton of people on this forum who would be happy to pay what ever price old Steve Jobbo asks.

Personally i make sure i get the Free ipod Printer and Full Education Discount from my family who are in Uni then sell the ipod and printer on ebay and get the cost right down :)

Yeah, finding the best bargain is what it's all about. It has nothing to do with not having the money (like I noticed some mention), and has everything to do with being smart.

I do agree that if you really need it, then get it, but if it's not dire, then you can definitely wait and get the best deals.

The best part is the people who come on here to tell me to stop moaning because they to add an extra 8.5% sales tax!! a WHOLE 8.5%!!!! to some states in America

Hello.... 20% VAT in January in the UK!

so i reserve my rights to moan when apple gouges me for another £100 on top for no other reason than i dont live in the US.

I agree. Although I paid Apple's full MSRP price, plus the Oklahoma and OKC 8.375% sales tax, at a nearby Apple Store, I would draw the line short of Apple's inflated European prices, plus 20% VAT. Yikes!

You were pretty anxious to get an MBA. I'm not convinced that you would have had the willpower to wait. :)

You just contradicted yourself. Should I be surprised after reading your posts in so many threads? NO WAY.

You feel like Apple is shafting you in terms of price.....BUT.....you have a Macbook Pro still. The world is ignorant to technology and will just happily hand over money to Mr. Jobs???......hmm....But you have a Macbook Pro.

Nice way to contradict yourself. ;). I doubt anyone here will take your posts seriously from now on. Enjoy your new Macbook Air with the double CPU speed (as you've said) next year. :D

Nice way to take my posts and completely change what i say.

Did you miss the bit where i said i got my Pro at uni prices with another £180 off due to free ipod and printer that i sold i didnt pay anywhere near full price in the end. also did you miss the post where i said the MBP is one of the best notebooks around.

Also did you miss the bit where i said someone else was a Mac stereotype who handed over money for what ever steve jobs asks in relation to the £100 on top of the Air.

Could be. If I were a European, accustomed to Apple's extra high prices, and desensitized to Europe's extortionate VAT, I might have bought my MBA as early as I did in the US. Makes me glad to live in the US, where taxes certainly aren't low, but they are lower.:)

Everything is expensive here so it doesn't feel that expensive :D Our VAT is 23% so no matter what I buy, nearly 1/4 of the money goes to the state. Maybe our salaries are better too, I'm not sure about that.

Honestly, I don't think paying 100$/£/€ more is that much as everything, EVERYTHING is more expensive in Finland. It's enough that I go to OWC to check some RAM and it's 1/2 what it would cost here. I would understand if MBA was several hundreds more but 100$/£/€ is still understandable. Even PCs cost more in here so things are just generally more expensive.

I wouldn't mind cheaper prices (and better edu discount, you UK people get like 14% off in HE store + 3-year warranty while we get only ~5% and no warranty) but I find that even with the current price, MBA is worth every cent (hopefully, damn UPS still hasn't delivered mine :()
