Just got off the horn with Amazon. I ordered a 2.0 MBP on Jan 14 with a shipping date of March 20. As of this morning, EST, Amazon has a release date of April 13. That is, April 13 is the day they start shipping! This release date, as I was informed by an Amazon CSR, is solely based upon the date Apple is shipping units to Amazon.

Now, I don't mind waiting for a new product to ship, but twelve weeks?!?

Does anyone have any updated information to share?

Um, don't base your decisions on what CSRs tell you. Instead, just be patient. The MBP just started shipping on Saturday from China to Apple Store customers, so it's very early on yet. Earlier in this thread, someone commented that the Intel Imacs started shipping from Amazon a week or so after Apple Store shipping started. So I'd give it another week.

You've waited this long for your MBP, you might as well be a little more patient and save $400-$500. Your wife will be impressed.

I ordered on 2/8 and the shipping date is still 4/10. BTW, what's the difference between shipping date (Amazon to UPS?) and delivery date (UPS to me?)?

Just hope I could receive the book earlier than the estimated date.

I got an email from Amazon last night:

"Thanks for writing to us at Amazon.com.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any misunderstanding and
allow me to explain.

Our latest information indicates that "Apple MacBook Pro 15.4"
Notebook MA464LL/A" has not yet been released and the expected
release date is not known.

We rely on the manufacturer for release date information. As soon as
a release date has been determined for this item, we will add that
information to our web site.

While we are confident that copies will be made available, we cannot
provide more precise information about the fulfillment of the order.
In light of this uncertainty, we will understand if you would prefer
to cancel your order. As of yet we have made no changes."

I also called and spoke to a CSR (two different ones) and neither of them could give me any information re: aniticipated arrival dates-they said that they did not have access to that kind of information. So, in light of all this, I don't think anyone really knows and it's anyone's guess. I would just keep checking Amazon every day to keep tabs. Also, my ship date of April 4th has not changed and you would think if the April 13th date is vaild, there would be adjustments at this point.
Too, MacMall anticipates shipping next week, CompUSA has March 1 as ship date for the 1.83 (2.0 just says "shipping soon"). Why would Amazon's shipment of MacBook Pro's be delayed? They are just as big a retailer as these other stores.

In the meantime, I am seriously considering putting an order in at Apple just in case...I really don't think I can wait until mid-April as I just sold my PowerBook this past week.

If so, I'll probably cancel it from Amazon and re-order it from MacMall. I'll check with MacMall next week.

I have considered this as well. But as someone mentioned, I can't believe that MacMall and CompUSA's are going to get them that much sooner than Amazon. Either MacMall is still being too optimistic and doesn't want to delay their shipping status until it passes or Amazon is being too conservative and doesn't want to bump their ship dates up until they actually receive their shipments.

Bottom line, I plan to wait atleast until someone says MacMall has shipped theirs and then give Amazon 2-3 days to come out with earlier dates.

Looks like Amazon must have gotten their shipment. My MacBook 2.0GHz (ordered on January 28) is now in the "Shipping Soon" stage.

just talked to the representative on macmall and learned my macbook pro (1.83) was shipped today.

*does snoopy happy dance*

i was about to not get it anymore since i am travelling abroad for at least 6 months next week and wouldn't be able to wait more.

yaaay. good luck for you all.

Mine is still set to come into macmall on Friday 3/3. I ordered on January 18th and am getting sick waiting for it! Mine is 2.0, 5400.

I did not think that the 1.83's even came in. Seems they should have shipped the orders that were placed first but there seems to be reason to
how they are shipping.

Just need it to come!!

I ordered last weekend (2/25 - MBP 2.0) and the system should arrive tomorrow AM. Doesnt make sense that I and others ordered last weekend and were placed in the queue ahead of you.

Good luck!
