You definitely need to calibrate it once every month. If you don't do so, the electrons in the battery will become stagnant faster and you'll lose capacity sooner than later. Apple has had this in their manuals for years and even has an iCal calendar you can download to tell you to do so. You're actually putting necessary load on the battery.

All coconutbattery does is report what the numbers are in the System Profiler, so, if anything is giving faulty readings, it would likely be the System Profiler and not coconutbattery.
