Has happened to my macbook pro 14 several times. Have tried all ports and magsafe without success so have had to restart it, which solves it.

So i noticed that (maybe after the latest Monterey upgrade - running 12.4 (21F79)) that my Macbook Pro will not charge (using the original Apple 96W adapter that came with the Macbook) and USB-C cable after my laptop went to sleep. I can then try many different adapters / cables that otherwise work fine but it will not work. It will also show so in System Report (Power -> AC Charger Information -> Connected No).

Tried turning on/off optimized battery charging but no help. The only thing that really works is restarting / power cycle the Macbook.

Anyone else have this issue? Mac in question is 14 with Pro 10/16/16 and 16GB Ram.
I'm having this problem too. My Macbook Air 12.2.1 is charging, so 12.4 might be the cause.

Someone on Twitter said that turning off optimized battery charging works. I'll let you know if it works.

Have the same problem with my m1 MBA (which I don't use often so the batt is "fresh")... interesting thing is when I use a NON-Apple usb-c cable with the Apple power supply it charges fine... seems to only be with the Apple cable... which, if I were Apple, I'd be embarrassed/ashamed about.

Assuming it's some 12.4 thing as that's when this problem appeared (a few days ago)

I fortunately have not yet experienced this on my 14” MBP M1 Pro. But then again, I’ve never turned on macOS’s optimized charging — I use Al Dente instead. Perhaps the optimized charging setting has something to do with it as suggested above.

My MBP 14 would only charge when rebooted - unil yesterday and now it won't charge at all. It's in at the repair shop, if this was a one-off it would be one thing but it seems to be a common problem. I've tried to reset the SMC, the repair shop tried to get some juice into it with some other chgers, but nothing. Now it's bricked. Very disappointing.

If your MacBook is not charging then it might be due to a simple issue like improper connection, or it could be due to a complex problem like wrong power settings in SMC. At first, you can try the below quick fixes to resolve the issue:

1. Check if the MacBook’s power adapter is properly attached to the power source and MacBook's charging port. Remove it once and re-attach it.
2. The MacBook adapter has three parts: Adapter, removable plug, and cable. Detach everything & clean, if there is any carbon deposit, it will get cleaned.
3. Check the adapter and cable for any physical damage.
4. Make sure that you are using the right charger compatible with your MacBook. Every MacBook model requires its specific charging adapter; else, it won't charge.
5. Make sure your adapter isn't overheating. If the adapter overheats, your Mac will shut the power intake until the adapter cools off.
6. Check the charging port on your MacBook and ensure that there is no dust or dirt in it.

Hope the above fixes will resolve the problem and make your MacBook charge normally. If not, then try the below methods to fix any software-related issue:

1. Check the battery of your MacBook.
2. Reset SMC.
3. Update or Reinstall macOS.

Hope the above methods and solutions will help you resolve the issue!

i upgraded my laptop to 12.5 last night, it seems that it fixes the issue, but i can't say for certain until a few more days pass, as it wouldn't always manifest right away and might take a few days.

Thanks for the response, if only that's all it was. Really appreciate the assistance though.

Something else was up. Not fixed yet, but I'll give an update:

So via Apple Support, I was directed to drop the machine off to a certified repair outlet for a "genius" to look at it. At drop-off the gentleman chatted away to me while plugging in various chargers and quickly determined that the magsafe port was malfunctioning, with equal efficiency he also determined that as it wouldn't charge through any of the USB-C ports they were all malfunctioning as well, but they'd open it up to make sure. I left him with it thinking how could all ports fail simultaneously..?
Needless to say, and after waiting a couple of days for parts to arrive, I'm advised this morning that replacing all the ports hasn't fixed the problem and they are now swapping out the Logic Board. Yep, the logic board. All data lost (lucky i have a reasonably recent back-up). This is the Max chip, 32 core graphics processor version. Not cheap, fortunately it's still under warranty. Thats all ports replaced and a new logic board. They might as well just give me a new machine.

It seems there's something fishy with the charging set-ups with these. And most concerningly as the internals are soldered together, something as simple as a charging dillemma can render a whole motherboard (including the storage) to waste.

I'm not an expert, and I'm only going on what the "genius" verbally advised, so better informed folks may provide commentary on any inaccuracies with this situation, and what to do / not to do to minimse the risk of this happening to others.

Anyone want to speculate whether it's hardware or software related?

Weird charging issue with my 2016 MBPro.

Wouldn’t charge at all when plugged in. Shows power connected, but stays on battery not charging.

It’ll charge now, but only when the laptop is closed. And very slowly.

Turned off optimized, reset SMC, all that. I dunno what’s up with mine.

Upgraded from 12.4 to 12.5 today and that didn’t seem to change anything
