Magic keys are fading quickly also. I have noticed shiny spots in the first week on my new Macbook Pro 2020 16 inch. I say 2020 because it the one with AMD 5600M.

I am a bit disappointed because now, after a little over a month, the keyboard looks a bit old, very close to the keyboard of the other macbook pro, mid 2010.
I am not sure what to do. I am one step from going to Apple and ask them about this.

My 2015 MBA was my first Apple machine that I used daily, for 3 years. The keyboard - I washed it down, I wiped it down because I thought it got too shiny after little use. And I'm someone who usually has grease free fingers because I wash my hands and face a lot - a bit of a germ-a-phobe.

After 3 years of heavy use, the keyboard showed shine.

My 2017 MBP (purchased in 2018) - definitely got shiny'er faster than my MBA - but not by much. I took greater care in wiping down the keyboard after use but I type a lot and I type fast and I type hard. Eventually the keyboard wore down and shined.

Eventually I just got used to it and stopped wiping down the keyboard in the last few years of my MBP. The butterfly keyboard worked very well, I could type on it super fast, and I liked it - only hated the noise.

Now with a 2020 MBP keyboard - I'm not even going to care. I'm just going to use it for 3 years and then move on. These are tools meant to be used and I really enjoy using them.

Definitely happens on more than just Mac keyboards. :p

Every Lenovo, Dell, HP laptop I've ever had has done the same.

At least with Macs, because the case is aluminium you don't (normally) get hand wear marks on the front near the trackpad.

This is standard wear and tear on a device which as above is intended to be used.

It happens to all machines. Every laptop/keyboard I have owned or used since the 90s has done this.

Its not oil so much, as actual wear on the plastic keycaps.

My 2020 13" MBP keys started showing this wear not long after I bought it. Only a few weeks if I remember correctly. Like everybody else this has been the norm on any computer I have owned.
