I keep hearing that BTO (Build to Order) MacBook Pro's are taking up to 2 months to arrive from date of order, is this correct? Something about due to chip shortages....

What @fa8362 said. There won’t be updates 14/16 Macbook Pros this year. It took two years for the 16 to be updated.

There may be something with the 14“ as there are rumors that the 13“ is be replaced by 14” with the M2 chip next to the MacBook Air/Mac Mini.

I'm considering getting my daughter a new MBP for her college graduation in May to use for grad school. Knowing that I should be ordering it next month at the latest is just crazy to me. Demand just continues to crush supply.

Depending on workload/work flow, the current MBP 13" is available?

I've noticed Amazon hasn't even listed the M1 Max 16" for a while. Wonder if stock Max models are lagging too.

It is, but she wants the 14" and will probably make good use of it. The good news is she can get by with a base model, so hopefully the wait times won't be as long on stock configurations.
The base models seem to be readily available near me. Just keep checking local Apple stores.

Edit: Just checked and a base 16” is available for delivery in 2 hours for $5.

It's been about a month and a half wait for my 16" M1 Max (still not here). Can't see the estimate because it was ordered through my organization.

Ordered Dec 14th was given a Feb 8-21 window. 16” Max 64gb with 2tb. Not expecting Apple to update these anytime soon they can’t even meet current demand.

I imagine that demand probably is a lot more than even Apple anticipated. Add the Covid 19 shut downs and chip shortages and that spells trouble. I am sorry that wait times are so high. You spend thousands on a device you expect it to be in stock or a slight delay for custom or BTO orders. I also would guess that of all the manufacturers out there that Apple would be in the best position. This is what happens when your supply chain is half way around the world.

If Apple would start to bring manufacturing back to USA, Canada and Mexico we could have a lot more control over the supply chain and also be able to increase quality. Apple is super invested in China hoping to get some of those Billion customers but what Apple doesn't realize is that China does not play by our rules and are only using US tech and manufacturers to get IP and steal designs and get Apple and other corps to pay to build new factories in China to a tune of some 275 billion in investment from Apple in the next 5 years. Apple has to give them tech information or share and build factories and pay for it in China. What do you think would happen if Apple invested the same 275 billion in factories here in US and the other countries close to us??

I don't know but I would guess it would be really good for this country since our manufacturing sector has been decimated. We need to have factories here to be able to be self sufficient. To grow our economy and give good high paying blue collar jobs back in the USA. There are a lot of Americans doing ****** service jobs that would much rather build stuff!! If they did it right I doubt it would cost as much as they may think to the bottom line. I think people here would pay extra for something made here and it would be a good marketing slogan. They talk about environment then Chinese manufacturing with coal plants and slave labor is pretty bad

Ordered mine on Dec 5th, received it yesterday. I half expected Apple to deliver it sooner, but it came within the delivery window.

I am in Iceland and ordered a maxed out Macbook Pro (8tb, 64gb etc). I ordered it around 8 weeks ago, and the distributor still has no word about when it might arrive. Zero information from Apple...it is getting difficult for my business, to be honest, as I have put off upgrading for awhile and I was expecting this to occur over the lull between Christmas and New Years, but it is dragging on so long. I was quoted 4-6 weeks when I bought it.

Reminds me of when the 17” PowerBook G4s were announced. Jobs showed them off / made them available for preorder at MWSF in January and first shipments were sometime in April or May.

Guess the only saving grace if you could call it that is that Apple on charges your CC when it ships. Not when you place the order
