When notebookcheck.com reviewed the 17" MBP they confirmed what my pictures show. They divided the display into 9 sections and measured each section's brightness. This clearly shows the objective differences between the left one-third and the rest of the display. Quite horrific that Apple would allow such variation in brightness.

Sigh.... easy English version?? LOL!!! HA HA, I found it!!! at the TOP not the bottom :D

I really need to buy one - but figured it would be March before I had the $$. I have a trip planned March 9 and wanted to take it with me - but I might have to revise that whole plan and see if we get an update in the March/April time frame.

I won't get to replace it for 3-4 years again - so i have to do it "right" the first time.

I would definitely wait and be as patient as possible. I've spent way too much time and energy on this - to the point of feeling that I should just give in an accept this as an temporary solution until Apple comes up with a good notebook display again. There comes a point where it's simply not worth all the hassle, especially given that Apple has bent over backwards to help (including upgrading me from 1 5 to 17"), but ultimately still not managed to give me a notebook with a display worthy of the rest of the machine.

If I hadn't switched to intel already, I would stay with my old powerbook G4 1.67ghz - a great machine with completely uniform display, albeit not as bright.

I"m trying to wait - but I really need to do something.

Heck, if the Mini was a C2D machine i'd probably go for that right now to get by......

Your PB is better than what i have to choose from right now - 1.25 G4 eMac and 12" 800mhz iBook. Neither of which will run aperture - which is what i need to get done. My pictures cataloged and "ordered".

UGH.

Of course, i'm forced to wait until the money tree sprouts :D
