If your "lmp version" is "0x4" you need a new card.

If your "lmp version" is "0x6" you just need the kext mod.

(last thing on screen shot)

Thanks! Can I buy everything from you? I was visiting iFixit and it looks as though, along with the BT card, I can buy a new bracket for fairly cheap which may or may not fit.

yeah I saw someone bought the bracket too but i'm not sure if it will fit into the 2010mbp, I have just bought the BT4.0 unit and the additional bluetooth antenna cable and crossing my fingers somehow they will fit.

using a BT 4 USB dongle with my MPB 13" 2010, my lmp version is 0x6. Does that mean that using your kexts I'd get handoff support?

Would be great if you try this and report here.

You don't destroy the kext by trying.
Just remember to copy the original kext to desktop before doing the stuff.;)
If it doesn't work you just copy the old kext back.

@all :apple:
I wrote everything together and also some additions.
Now you could download the Howto as pdf.;)

Thanks for the guide, but since the mentioned MBP is crucial for my job, I can't really take any risk, even if it's a very small one.

from my research it seems the same card of 15 "
write in terminal:
ioreg -l | grep "board-id" | awk -F\" '{print $4}'

if you can read: Mac-F22586C8 than my modded kext it's ok for you
If you read another value, write to me and i'll edit the kext for you

Here it says
Mac-F22589C8

So it might be a slightly different model.

Will we have to replace the kext every time again, if OSX is updated by Apple?

Thanks for your great guide!

I ordered the Bluetooth card but I am not sure which additional antenna cable i should order. Can I use just any fitting bluetooth cable like one from the iPad?

My output says:
F222BEC8

It is a 13" Mid 2010 MBP.

Can you help me with the kext?

Sorry, but are you saying the dongle you're using gave you the LMP 0x6 version? Did you need to do some sort of OS modifying for OS X to be directed to your dongle as the default bluetooth card, or did this happen automatically? Your screen shot indicates OS X is only showing, thus using, one bluetooth card, right?
Which dongle (brand/model) is it?

But most importantly, have you tried modifying the kext and successfully got continuity to work using the dongle?

thanks

Yes, that happened automatically using the dongle. It's the IOGEAR GBU521.
Like i said before, I can't take the slightest risk that something would go wrong with my mac, so I haven't tried anything.

After running the command in terminal, my 13" MBP chucks out the following:

Mac-F222BEC8

Is this upgradeable? I see on iFixit that the connector looks vastly different - a push in clip rather than a push-on ZIF connector.

SP5e21JoE6xuTdWT.medium

I would gather that this is not upgradeable :(

another option? maybe?

I am thinking of trying to use the wifi/bluetooth card from a mid 2011 mac mini.
It is actually similar in size and connector location.

Where in the kext file does it say which chip it should use? Do you know?
Thanks
Mica

Although the USB BLE dongle solves the Continuity issue on my mid-2010 MBP 15", I just did the BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX upgrade (to save a USB port). Took only 45 minutes, works perfect as well.

Cheers!

And how did you manage this with the BT Dongle?
Please step-by-step-instruction.

Thanks in advance!

Step 1) buy dongle
Step 2) plug dongle into USB
Step 3) Run continuity tool
Step 4) PROFIT!

:O wow! As this easy?
You're the first who said it works like that. Everybody said it doesn't work with dongle.

So you didn't use the Apple developer tool to change which BT the MacBook has to use either (intern/dongle)?

Well, ordered the Correct wireless card as stated above, but was unable to install this on a 13" 2010 macbook pro, as the card originally in it is smaller, and the connector is different from the new one, the old card's connector slides in and clicks, while the new cards connect is a on top push to click connector. did I order the wrong card or am i SOL?
