I'm seeing that $18 authorization as well. It seems odd that they would do that for no reason, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. It gets here when it gets here.

And if I keep telling myself that --- it still won't help! I want my MacBook yesterday! :p

I checked online and I'm not seeing the shipping charge on my card... but then again, they're always a day or so late posting new charges, so I have no idea if it's there or not. It'd be great if they're ready to ship, but I'm also trying to not get my hopes up.

Doesn't really explain anything actually. The 15th is a sunday, so nothing is happening that day. Still, with 2 day shipping it should arrive on Wednesday (assuming they are ready on time... ha!)

Since Feb. 15 is a Sunday, I didn't realize that until now. - The MacBook's are on or before the 15th, so If that's the case, we should all see them ship on Friday the 13th (I hope that isn't a bad sign!) and we should have em in our hands by the 16th.

My iMac shipped on Friday, January 13th, and arrived on the 16th which was was MLK day.

I don't know if this means anything or if I'm just fueling the excitement, but I called the Apple Store today to cancel the order on my MacBook Pro. When I got someone on the phone, I told him I wanted to cancel the order, he hesitated for a second, and said "I don't know if we can do that", and proceeded to put me on hold. He came back about five minutes later, and said the order had been cancelled. I don't know what that means, but I figured I'd leave anything up to your interpretations.

EDIT: I placed my order on 1/11, and it had a scheduled ship date of 2/15, arrival date 2/23

:D I WANT MY MACBOOK PRO! As this is my first Mac I entertain myself by watching any kind of video about features or how to use on the Apple website. Any other ideas of contructive things to do to learn about my new Mac?

I think this is Apple trying to look like heroes to all of us who ordered MacBook Pros. If they manage to deliver early, and without us expecting it, we'll love 'em. I hope this is what they are doing. I would love a new PC to do work and play on.

Hmm, that is pretty interesting. If it was just your local Apple Store, I might would kind of dismiss it as it being an average employee who was unsure about what can be done over the phone or at their store.... but it would also seem plausible that they could be in the know as to if any are shipping yet (or are at that stage of the order where it's too late to change anything)

Exactly the same for me. This will be my first Mac, and all I've done for nearly the past month (since I ordered it, that is) is watch the Keynote a few times, read the product page, and scour the Internet for any pictures, writeups from MacWorld, etc. that I can find relating to it.

Here's the deal. The MacBook Pro isn't ready yet, and that's why it isn't shipping like the iMac is. All benchmarks for the MacBook comparisons were made using preproduction MacBooks while the iMacs make no mention of preproduction models in their benchmarks.

You'll notice that they said they were shipping in February and the shipping date is February 15th, half way through February. Surely they will be shipping before then.

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about your shipping method if these are shipping directly from China. Apple is forced to use express even if you choose ground when shipping overseas. When I ordered my video iPod I used ground and it made it from China to Connecticut in under twenty-four hours. My estimate is that 2-3 day shipping orders and ground orders will arrive at the same time.

Yup, a friend of mine ordered a Mac Mini the day they were announced, with 'ground' shipping. They shipped it 2-day air. Unfortunately for him, it got stuck in customs for 4 days!

Macbook Pro/Apple store

I was VERY intrigued by this announcement. I didn't order one because I demand to see one in action first. I really need to see what the battery life is and how hot it runs. (My Gateway laptop is very often too hot to use as a laptop.) I didn't know these would be so hot. It looks like the Apple store won't be able to keep them instock for me to go and play.

*meditates* Be at peace with the Mac world. All things come in time. My MacBook Pro is a leaf on the wind. Ohmmmmm. I'm having my MacBook held at the distribution center. That way if indeed it gets into the area by the weekend I can just take a trip downtown and pick it up there since they don't deliver on weekends. Ohmmmm :D

DAMN anti-Mac dead presidents. How dare they get between a man and his MBP. ;)

No kidding...They better ship sooner. Can anyone recall a past order that relates this $18 shipping charge to the time when their Mac, iPod, Display ect. was actually shipped?

Well mine is reaching on the 23rd, no point in me paying for faster shipping cause i need someone to bring it down to my island now....But question, do you guys have any laptop bags in mind? because i hear the MBP is slight thinner and wider than the Pbook 15"

the macbook is slimmer but its also larger in length and width. Brenthaven is supposed to come out with new bags in march. I'm gonna get me one of those for my MBP

I ordered and have received this as a case. It's "maximum laptop size" dimensions are .1 inches smaller than the MacBook Pro, so it won't be a problem. And the foam sides are soft enough that they'll allow for some give. The case seems very durable, I'd recommend it in a second.

I'd give it a test run with my 12" PowerBook, but I'm afraid to move this thing after I dropped it on its corner and it failed to function for almost a week.

This looks sweet, and it's very affordable! The only problem i am having with it is that i'm only seeing one compartment for basically all your accessories, mouse, power chords and so on. I really want one for school purposes so i can keep my folder, books and instruments in (preferably Messenger style). If i have no luck then i'll buy this one

Don't be surprised if FedEx or UPS has a field day with your shipment, take a look at how the iMacs have been shipped...hung up in Shanghai, the Phillipines, being rerouted and accidentally unloaded...
