The new Apple Silicon machines result in a lot less compromise because they aren't furnaces like the intel ancestors.

The flip side of having a battery is that you've got a built in UPS for power outages.
Excactly. My MBP 14" runs cool and manages battery by itself by not keeping it at 100% all the time.

They're great, and I would love one of the new MBP's, but there's no comparison in specs at similar price points between them and the Studio. I'm just at a point where I'm realizing that what portability I need can be covered by continuing to use my 2017 MBP as a portable (I used it as a desktop for several years) while using a Studio as my new desktop.

I use a 14 inch MBP M1 Max / 32GB / 2TB in clamshell mode. Run a lot of adobe apps with 1 external monitor. I haven't heard a fan on in nearly a year (the entire time owning it). Highly recommended.

That's fair.

You could also maybe(?) get by with an ipad as a portable and a studio - i'd seriously consider that.

My main (home) desktop is the PC in my sig, so that area is covered for me by that PC, but the 14-16" machines are certainly capable of doing dual duty. It's my "desktop" at work.
