I just bought this one with my new MBP 2.4
I like it, its perfect for carrying the laptop and a charger + some other small things, its ideal for light travel. The inside of the bag has a few extra pockets and its velvety, very smooth.

In actuality, I am also on the search for a great backpack for a MacBook Pro, except I need one that will accomodate the 17" model.
I really liked the green Incase backpack in the Apple Store until I tried it on. I felt way too nerdy for my own good... also it got many poor reviews at Apple's online store and it was discontinued there as well the last time I checked on it

Note: I have seen the Tom Bihn Brain Bag already. I do like it a lot but it is a bit out of my price range.

I happen to have the SwissGear Synergy. It's a little on the heavy side as far as backpacks are concerned but it has a ton of pockets and it's able to accomodate my 15" MBP in its sleeve. They can be found at CompUSA although it'll be cheaper via Amazon.

A second recommendation for the Swissgear Synergy (got mine from Amazon relatively cheap).
It's a largish backpack, but if you're storing multiple things, it has enough pockets. I store a bunch of cables, my 2.5" 60gb hard drive, my mouse, mousepad, ac adapter for my 15" mbp, etc...
It's best to see these backpacks in person first - they can be larger/more cumbersome than you might think (it's hard to tell from pictures sometimes).

i feel the same way about the incase it just seems a bit to nerdy for my taste ive seen the swiss army one before my friend has it and it may be a tad to big id like to see if i can find anything else keep postin if u got any more suggestions thankss
I have a 15 MBP and recommend getting the North Face Bandwidth. There is a laptop pocket that fits the MBP perfectly with a nice amount of padding all around it. Typically I have 2 large text books along with the MBP and the MBP never gets bent or scratched. Theres also pockets to put you mouse and or portable hard drive.

dakine makes some cool backpacks that have notebook sleves, i have been using one for about 2 years now and love it, they take alot of abuse and pad the laptop well. has held up to 2 snowboarding seasons also, so it takes abuse of all types, its also extremely water resistant, as long as you dont submerse it in water your stuff will stay dry.

Has anybody tried The North Face Surge backpack? I have heard that it won't hold a 17" MBP and then I have heard that it would? Also how well does it protect the computer?

Overall very happy with it and got it off ebay New for about $120.00 delivered to Canada...

I have the Surge and I love it. The padding is pretty good for the laptop, since it has its seperate compartment that is slightly raised off the bottom of the backpack. There is a small pocket at the bottom where you could put some more padding, which imo, isn't needed.
I actually got another laptop, not my MBP, a Compaq 15inch from the US to India in perfect condition. Its really easy on your back, my old Jansport backpack would hurt my shoulders, but the surge is very comfortable. Perfect for college campus use, which I bought it for.

I have the SwissGear Pegasus...it's a bit big for my tastes but I was in the market for a new backpack and this one was on sale for half the original price. Fits 17" notebooks, even though my MBP is 15.4".

I really like the Dakine 101 does anyone know the how big the main pocket is ill need to have like 2 - 4 text books/1 inch binders? Thanks
i suggest getting a timbuk2 bag
i have a timbuk2 messenger bag, i'm on my bike or at the office all day and my computer is always with me. i either have a 14" iBook, 15"MBP, or 17"pb with (don't ask why i have all three of those) and my bag is great for holding up. I have a medium (which is a squeeze for the 17") without the laptop slot and i love it. i would recommend getting a large and custom ordering the two laptop sleeves. they make non-messenger bags, like slings and two shoulder strap "backpacks" as well, so don't be scared away by all the pictures of bikepunx on the site. good luck!
