Mine has 16GB, maybe it's the SSD.

But now I reversed that, and now it's my backup.
If you like the machine still and are ok with the lack of future OS upgradabilty, you can get a nice faster SSD on ebay or through some of the other providers for not too much $$..from Transcend or OWC, ~ 80-100$ for 500GB but noticeably better REAR/WRITE performance.

that sucked battery though, i tried this with a 1tb intel and it suppose to have one of the lowest idle rate, even then my battery took an hour or so hit.

Well, sadly most things in life aren’t free, but I will say I did this with a Transcend drive in a 2012 rMBB (yes, that old and its still kicking!) and I didn’t have any battery life impact, or at least not noticeable.

I'm wondering how this machine compares to a new M1 / M2 MacBook Air / Pro. You guys think I'd notice a real difference between this MPB '15 and a new machine, in terms of usability / features / ... ?
I have a 13" 2015 and multiple M1's. The 2015 is still perfectly usable for normal everyday tasks like web browsing and music and stuff. The 2015 can also have the storage upgraded, I put a 2TB Rocket Q in mine. While not a powerhouse at all I still use my 2015 all the time around the house. Still hold up and is an excellent machine. Big Sur and Mojave are my OS's to run on it.

It's not unusable, just the lack of latest macOS. It's definitely still good to use and definitely still useful in a clutch.

As you can see in the picture above, I'm using Ventura on my 2015 laptops (all of them to be exact) and have no issues. As long as your laptop is doing everything you need it to do then it is a great laptop. I'm now on 13.2 on my laptops. :apple:

OK, just have to ask. Aside from 2015 being a fine year, why do you have 4 different models of 2015 laptops?

I have Mojave on mine and it's great, although I don't think that Ventura sucks.
i have ventura on my m1 14inch and my work issued m2 mba, i absolutely hate the new system setting menu, there are occasional glitches upon restarts, and the absolutely worse is apple did not address the memory leak issue, in fact i feel it got worse on ventura.

Memory leaks are such a drag, I had a lot of leaks in Monterey and it was frustrating.

yeah that was the main reason why i jumped on ventura so quick, cause some early beta folks "claimed" it was better, but that turn out to be false and now im stuck with a iphone like system setting menu that i have no idea where anything is.

I still use my Early 2015 13 inch MacBook Pro as a night stand computer (8 GBs of RAM, 2.7 GHz i5, 256 GBs of RAM). For web browsing its more than fine and I have been using desktop Outlook client to read mail. I do notice when it wakes from sleep though it takes a while to connect back to Wi-Fi. Sometimes I have end up restarting it. I don't leave browsers like Firefox or Chrome open while running on battery, they kill it in no time. I have a 15 inch 2015 and hands down, I prefer using the 13 inch over it. The audio sucks though and believe got worse when it fell on ground (thankfully it was in a hard protective case). I noticed latency when I connect my Beats Solo so I use my wired ear pods. Currently its running Big Sur as a personal preference, I like staggering my OS releases. When macOS 14 is launched, I will upgrade it to Monterrey which will be its last OS release. Its been a work horse for me since I got it. Used it to provide technical support, ran multiple Windows 10 VMs on it, managed my budget. Its had a good run considering it originally came with Yosemite 10.10. Eight OS upgrades is nothing to sneeze at.

This is my main computer. Last month I upgraded to an OWC SSD and did maintenance on the macbook (new battery, new paste, new foot pads, general cleaning). I went from the original 256 GB to a 1TB SSD bought from OWC along with the enclosure to keep the original as a backup. I regret it since I sacrificed speed for space. But it still works. I stayed with Big Sur because of stability and compatibility with hardware/software (printers, scanners). I don't do video/audio editing, so maybe that's why I don't notice it's an 8 year old computer. If your usage is light, I don't think you'll have problems and you can still squeeze a couple of years of this machine, which is great if you're the type of person who doesn't like throwing away machines that still work.

One thing I wish I had is a fingerprint reader, though. It's a drag to manually enter passwords.

BTW, as a light user I bought a PRO with 16Gb directly from Apple because I knew it would last about 10 years, since my last mac was not a pro and still worked for about 8 years. I probably wouldn't have been able to add the 1TB SSD with the standard 8GB of RAM.
