I just got a brand new week 25 MBP (15.4", 2 GHz) and I am definitely in the right state of mind. No whine at all, and with light web browsing and instant messaging it hovers in the low 40's, and gets up to about 73 degrees celsius under full load. A perfect machine in my opinion, and if told that meroms were coming out august 7, I would make the same choice and buy this baby again:)

Nobody in the right state of mind is buying a MBP now, with the Macbooks out delivering near equivalent processor power for much less money, and with Core 2 just round the corner. All those as well as the reasons you mentioned, the overheating and whining and mooing, who on earth will buy them now?

Ok-here is my story

First the keyboard dies within 2 days.
Then the screen wont show anything at all after getting it back from
Apple 3 days later.
All within less than 2 weeks- now I have to send it back for a
replacement.
Ive had nothing but headaches with this computer-It also has problems
running windows under boot camp, not to mention that the screen would
get dark and ask for a reboot (which the only thing you can do is hold
the power button until it shuts off).
If the new one has problems too, Ill assume that Apple has not ironed
out enough bugs yet and I will demand a refund.

BTW is core 2 the same as core duo? Please someone help me with this so I will know if I should also wait.

MacBook Pro 17-inch Hard Drive Capacity: 120 GB
Processor Type: Intel Core Duo Operating System: Mac OS 10.4, Tiger
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz Screen Size: 17 inches
Memory (RAM): 1 GB

I'm not very computer savy, but from my understanding which could be very misdirected, core 2 is going to be different from the current core duo as it deviates from the age old architecture that intel has incorporated in their chips in the past and present. The result is a chip that gives the same processing power with 20-30% less energy consumption. It also will be able to support a 64bit OS rather than the current chip's 32bit (which I really have no idea the significance of).

Hopefully someone will elaborate upon its advantages for us.

I bought my new MacBook Pro earlier this week. Zero whine, zero problems with heat. Runs cooler than my iBook did on my lap. No 1st, 2nd, or 3rd degree burns, even with extended use. I likewise would be very happy purchasing it now, even if something new is around the corner. It's better than I expected! However, I'm not running Bootcamp. Mercifully not in a position that requires me to do that. Very happy

It is said that each of us has a fair allotment of luck in life. Sorry pathMD, but it seems like you have just lost your chances to:

1) Win huge at a casino
2) Meet a wonderful woman, not just the current woman, but the perfect woman
3) Form a startup, and succeed.
4) Retire when you are 35
