Hello,

I have Macbook Pro 2008 sitting there useless for a long time.

I tried to install Snow Leopard DVD. Booted up Mac with DVD, Apple logo appears up and a round throbber is under it spinning for 2 minutes and then whole screen freeze. Spinning throbber does not spin any more. Waited 15 minutes in that state but no help.

Tried to start up Mac with a Ubuntu Live USB. I can use Ubuntu for 2 minutes and then again Mac freezes.

What might be the reason of the freeze and how can I fix it please?

Cheers

Hmm, sounds like a RAM or I/O fail.

Is it possible, to test it with another RAM-Bank? Or if you have 2 banks in your mac, can you try to start with one bank? So if this is also failing, you can try it with the other bank.

This would be a good possibility to test about RAM-fail.

Thank you very much for your help.

I tried with 4GBx2 and 2GBx1 RAM. Both, same result.
