Almost all manfacturer's only warranty replacement parts for 90 days (or for the remainder of the manufacturer's warranty, whichever is greater).
They are not obligated to help you. You didn't buy AppleCare, that is why they sell it, so that your computer will be covered if it breaks beyond the manufacturer's warranty period.
Even if I spend the $1000 it's now going to cost to repair the machine I can likely look at spending another $1000 within 6 months because another logic board is bound to die. The replacement parts are complete garbage and failure is pretty much the only guarantee.
Basically I'm stuck. Can't afford to fix it and can't afford to pay for the constant repairs it's likely to need in the future. Now I need to strip the HD out of my 18 month old $2500 laptop for my data and scrap the rest... wonderful.
Apple's extremely rude product support staff has also proven that I should be doing my business elsewhere.
