New Hitachi Travelstar to ship in Feb.

Here's the link to the Hitachi website, with the description of the Travelstar 5K500 and E5K500, both 500GB 5400 RPM 2.5in. If you check the datasheet, it appears to be 12.5mm thick... according to one of the first posts on this thread, that would be too thick for the MacBook Pro (although I have no way of knowing this). Anyway, it appears the future laptop capacity is going through the roof and quick.

Question for our audio editors
: based on the datasheets for the E5K500 (500gb 5400rpm) and the E7K200 (200gb 7200rpm) would there be a significant and noticeable difference between the two to warrant waiting for a high-capacity 7200rpm drive?

Thanks

David

FYI: I just did the HD upgrade on my 2.2G MBP. I installed the WD 320GB Scorpio. I followed the iFixIt guide and got the HD installed. I have lots of experience upgrading repairing computers so I felt pretty confident going in. I would not say that the upgrade was a piece of cake, however. Here are the issues I ran into for any potential upgraders.

1) Be careful removing the screws. These are set very tight. Take you time and be very careful to not strip out the heads. Anyone know of a source for replacements?

2) The keyboard is very hard to remove. The front part of the keyboard is held together by 4 tabs that do not come off easily. I had to use more force that I was initially comfortable with. However, the tabs did release the case.

3) Make sure you reset these tabs when putting the keyboard back on. You will hear a snap when the tab seats. If you do not seat these properly then your case will bulge around the tab.

Beside these issues the install was not difficult. Take you time and be very careful with the case.
