I was in the same boat and my 14" 10 core MBP arrived this past Tuesday. As a developer, it is a BEAST! I'm running a very large legacy Java website on Docker, running concurrent automated e2e tests, and running multiple Angular environments. I never hear the fans, and I think the first time they came on was this morning during a Teams call (since Teams is a fat hog). I only knew the fans were on because I'm using iStatistica Pro to watch heat/CPU usage (just out of interest) and noticed in the widget that the fans came on for the first time today -- I didn't even hear them at all.

Having come from a 2013 and 2015 MBP, this 14" is an absolute unit and I'm completely happy with it. I see myself using this one for another 7 years at least.

Same/similar issue here - wait or upgrade..... is it stupid to buy a mbp 14" right now? There's always a better one around the corner, but sometimes that corner is a year away LOL. Bought the 2020 i7 MacBook Pro just before the M1 came out and regretted it ever since. Want to sell it before it's worth nothing anymore and get a 14" M1pro which should last me a good few years.... but buy or wait...don't want to make the same mistake twice!!
I would sell the i7 sooner rather than later. With the M1 Chips in the used market and with apple dropping support of the intel chips - the value has gone down significantly on the Intels already

Yep, I thought that too. I have just ordered the 14" and will sell my i7 as soon as it arrives at the end of August (hopefully). Even tempted to sell it now but that would leave me with just an old iPad mini and a monitor - I could work off that (if it would connect) but not ideal. Hopefully 2 months won't make that much of a difference and I can still make use of the 'back to school/college' crowd on Ebay....
