And yes, the cable feels kinda weird and smells kinda weird also. Way worse than my old cable... but for the good of the planet maybe? i kinda believe its because of using some recycled plastic or so.

I really hope Apple starts making the braided USB cables that come with the Mac Pro standard. The biggest mistake Apple has made in the pursuit of environmentally friendly products is whatever they use for cable sleeves. Sure, it's PVC free, but they break down far too quick.

My Mac mini M1 also has really bad smell. I'm using it already 4 weeks for work. Also my 7 month old Mac mini i7 has such smell but less. I already changed everything (mouse, keyboard, cables, display). I've started to notice the Intel based Mac mini smell after moving from a big to a small room.
I am worried and it's awful.

My M1 Macbook Air gave off an odor the first few days and went away after using. Just that "New Mac" smell haha. Should be nothing to worry about.
My M1 MBA hardly gave off that "New Mac" smell... On a contrary, my 2010 MBP and both 2007 and 2009 MP gave off that scent for about a month when they were new...

Having a bad smell from anything you use regular, like a computer, is not fun. At all. :(

But I have to admit this reminded me of a quote from the "Apocalypse Now" movie. Reproduced below, with changes to match the Apple Silicon Macs.

"I love the smell of computing in the morning. You know, one time we had a Mac running 100 apps for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn’t feel any heat from the case, not one stinkin' fan running. The smell, you know that hardware smell, the whole Mac. Smelled like victory."

Hey guys,

I'm using a MacBook Pro M1, just on my second week now. On the second day I sensed an odor, that I would describe as warm chemicals. It's my best try at describing it tbh.

The MacBook as never been hot, the fans never kicked in, it's working flawlessly, no problems at all. The thing is, if I get close like 2 centimetres from the keyboard, specially near the usb-c ports, speakers, or even underneath near the vent grill, I still get the same smell.

It's bugging me because I don't know if its a regular thing with MacBooks or not. My only experience was with a MacBook Air 2020 with intel processor which I used for 2 months before gifting it to my SO. I don't feel like I ever felt the same smell with it as I'm sensing with this one.

Should I be worried?

I have been using my MacBook Air M1 for over a month now. At first, I didn’t relate “the odor” to my MacBook. But every time I start my MacBook it emits what I have come to call, ”the five seconds of Macness in the Air”! It’s crazy!! I’m not sure if this was intentional, you know like the next tech or something of sorts. One more thing, the Mac is doing just great! No issues at all! To be honest, it’s not a smell that worries me, it smells more like misty Apfelsaft. You know what I mean?
