Hmph, let's have a bet. I'll go to the nearest Applestore tomorrow and get a Macbook. Then we meet up. Then we both simultanously drop our laptops together on a concrete floor. Then we pick them up. Then we flip them over.

If the Macbook Pro ends up having less dents than the Macbook, then I will give you my Macbook for free. Else we just swop them.

Deal?

Nope, I dont have MBP nor a local Apple Store. Sorry :D

Even if I had one, I'd NEVER drop it on purpose!!!

Ahhh, marketing works. Makes joe six-pack feel like a professional. ;)

I do however think, that there is a reason to get the Pro over the regular one. But it's certainly not just because you're a 'professional'.

Tell me, why does a 'pro' secretary need a macbook pro when it runs Word just the same as the regular macbook. Why does a gamer need the macbook pro? Not because he's a pro, but because of the specifications.

Ack, this debate is worse than Mac vs. Windows.

Need we have factions within the Mac community now over similarly spec'd hardware with different casings? There are variations, the cost is purely from a marketing standpoint as we can all imagine the costs for parts can hardly top $50 for Apple in difference between the MB & MBP. Whether or not you're willing to pony up for the Pro is entirely up to you.

I cannot wait til they throw a Core 2 Duo and a blue LED sleep light in the pro to shut everybody up...

By your logic...

Why buy anything larger than a Honda Civic, if you need to move more than 4 people -- just make multiple trips.

I'm not sure I really agree with that statement. The MacBook Pro just has more features, that's all. Doesn't mean it's just for pro users... and, pro users in my book are about 22+ who are out of college and making a living depending on something like video or photography... you can be a power user, like you and myself, or you could be a pro user, like a professional photographer.

Say what? I'm not trying to be unreasonable here, but an X1600 with 128MB of dedicated VRAM is not $50 more expensive than a GMA950 with shared memory. Likewise, the price difference between the 15" screen and the 13" one is almost certainly more than $50--like I said, the Pros use noticibly higher-end screens. The Expresscard slot probably DOES cost a lot less than $50, but it's another thing that adds to the cost.

The ambient light sensor, keyboard backlighting, and slightly better speakers all add a little bit of cost as well. And the metal case, whether you think it looks better or not, is almost certainly significantly more expensive for Apple.

My point is not that one computer is "better" than the other, but that pretending the graphics card, larger screen, and the other extras you get with the Pro models are $50 worth of difference is just plain silly. It may or may not be worth as much more as they're charging, but it ain't $50.

Now, charging $200 more for the Black Macbook, that you're welcome to complain about--there's zero doubt that the slightly different case coating costs nowhere near that much. That doesn't mean it's not worth it for some people. but that's the only place you really have room to complain.

Sticking a Benz logo to a Honda doesn't make it a luxury car either...

Hmm, where is the FW800 port on the 15" MBP? Geez, I suppose it is too much to expect Apple to actually use a real FW controller for a $800 price premium isn't it? Nevermind the fact that the Intel switch has probably brought them a lot of cost savings from having free "Airport Exress" (also known in PeeCees as Intel Wireless) already!

all very good points. 1984 was an amazing book! Orwell was a genius!

i own a macbook black and macbook pro now....and i like the pro better. just my opinion. why do i ahve them both? i got money and i like how both looks. :) the metal case is much classier looking in my opinion. 1000 dollars for white macbook....2000+ for mbp...who cares. there both great but i do think the mbp is better. just an opinion. i have no idea about anything on macs or anything, jus had around 4 grand to burn so i got 2 mb's cuz they were pretty lookin :)

To op.

I think you are trying to state your opinion. Why are you trying to argue then?

Everyone has his/her own opinion.
