Yes, right, by abusing it you must mean gently placing it in my Crumpler laptop bag, gently putting in on my desk or gently putting it on the dining room table. What an abusive laptop owner I am. Practically extreme laptopping. That was sarcasm by the way (never sure if sarcasm travels well around the world).

He was obviously trolling. No need to feed him.

My friend's CD MBP has warping above the latch. Looks hideous.

I was told by two apple geniuses that 'they're all like that and that it's within spec". I fought that and eventually got it replaced but the new one had the same thing. It seems that many of them do have bulgin aluminum above the latch. What surprised me was that when I pushed down on the surface above, the little strip of metal literally buckled out in a U-shape - popped out about a quarter of an inch or more!

If Apple can't fix your problem and its been in the shop more then 3 times (depending on your state) it will be classified as a lemon, which means.. NEW LAPPY! If they don't give you a new laptop, thats a lawsuit.

If you are as gentle with it as you claim then explain why it warped?

I don't see my car magically scrapping itself for no reason. Every effect has a cause. You must have applied force on it, strong force, in order to warp your computer.

Does your crumpler bag has a reinforced back? So... without a laptop in it, your bag is completely stiff and can't be bent? I don't care if it is a crumpler bag or not, because at that point you just proved that it makes absolutely no difference.

He was obviously trolling. No need to feed him.

By your definition (ie: if someone has a differing opinion to you, then he must be a troll) you are probably a flamebait.

And lucius would be a Dell user who just pretends to make up an issue with a Macbook Pro, and post stories about how the good looking casing warps like a piece of crap.

I don't have any casing warp, but I do have a little gap above my IR port.. I'm just curious if thats normal.. I would say the gap is a little smaller then my index finger nail.

I had a PB G4 15" 1.5 Ghz and now I have a MBP 15" 2.16 Ghz. I have never had any warping, buzzing, bulging, buckling issues. The MBP gets a bit hotter than my old PB, but that's understandable as it's way more powerful. It doesn't get hot though, I can still use it on my lap without any problems.

I'm happy with the build quality on Apple laptops. I have 3 friends with brand new macbooks and none of them have had a single problem either.

Just want to let people know that there are many people out there happy with their Macbooks and Macbook Pros.

i just got my MB C2D :p i hope i dont have problems like with you're MBP. I haven't really had problems with heat yet because any time i'm using that much proscessor power it's usually pluged in and on a desk of table. But i have noticed recently when downloading files on Limewire that it was getting pretty hot.
I got FanControl today and am testing it out.

The macbook gets hotter then the macbook pro cause the MBP has two fans. The MB is known to get a little toasty.

Must've lucked out

...knock on wood, I bought a new sub #1000 off the assembly line MBP 17" stock config with matte screen and it works like a champ. I've never seen a computer crunch SETI data this fast, so fast it's threatening my mid-level Wildblue Satellite package bandwidth allotment. I already had to upgrade from the lowest package over the holidays because I blew through the first allotment like it was nothing. I may have to discontinue SETI@home on this computer if I continue to download so much data, I'm over 9000MB on my rolling usage chart and I've only got 12GB before I've surpassed this package. The fans roar like a jet when it's working hard on a graphics-intensive game or SETI but it stays cool. That's the way it is with such a powerful machine. I've got no cosmetic or other defects at all, but I generally leave it on my desk.:)

Hey steady on. I've owned a MBP, a G4 alu Powerbook, a G4 Titanium Powerbook, a Mac Mini (intel) and a G5 iMac (Rev A). Additionally I've had 3 iPods, all versions of OS X upgraded since 10.1 and (more fool me perhaps) 2+ years of a dot Mac account.

I wasn't trying to flamebait - If this forum is not the *one* place I can criticise Apple from the inside then where is? Apple is a great company but they are not perfect - maybe one day they will be.

We all know Apple is a great company, but perfect?

Maybe instead of the 72 virgins you can strike a deal with the maker to get him to give you a Perfect Apple Corporation in your afterlife. I'd stick with the standard issue 72 virgins though.

IMO the C2D Macbook Pros have really solid construction as compared to the earlier models, I don't see any sign that Apple is cheapening out at all. Apart from the grainy display (I own a 15") I really have no complaints.

Warping casing, well the thing is made of a soft metal, it is light, and 1 inch thin. What do you expect?! The good news is even if it gets warped just warp it back! It is not hard, my lid warps towards the sides very slightly due to the way I open and shut the lid, I just insert a small piece of paper in the middle of the latch to wedge it up and press down on the sides to straighten it out. Looks perfect after that.

Some of the posters' demands are really unreasonable, like how there is a gap between the lid and the machine. Well... big deal! It doesn't affect the functionality in any way, and it is easily remedied. Besides guess how the competition's offerings look after a year or so? Well I've seen plenty of old PC laptops around, they all look like ****, but at least Mac laptops still look good after 3 years if you take decent care of it.

This entire thread is such a flamebait, just look at the title. Macbook Pro piece of junk rant. So you are suggesting that the MBP has not one redemning quality to it? It warps moderately, so what? At least the 17" has an insanely good screen compared to the 15". One that I'd put up with warping for.

Maybe the title was provocative, probably a bad plan in retrospect! My issue goes rather beyond the warping of the lid (which is endemic in all laptops regardless of manufacturer). If I can ever get a Genius Bar appointment at my local Apple shop I will see what they can do for me. I might be tempted to go for a Macbook next time, thet seem to have a more solid feel to them (I borrowed one for a week while I was waiting for this machine to be delivered).

Again, sorry if I've upset everyone's sensibilities, I just wanted to get some things off my chest regarding my MBP. No harm meant.

After your 3 mos phone support, if you don't have applecare, you pay for phone support

Let me get this straight: after more than three months, I start getting problems with my MacBook. There are no Apple Stores in my country, and if I call Apple to tell them about it, I have to pay?! If that's true, then I don't know any company who's support is as bad.

I thought the three months phone support was just if I had to call them and ask about stupid things, not if I had a problem with the computer.

You are correct. If you're reporting a hardware fault, you won't be charged for anything more than the phone call.

I heard on this forum that as long as it's not troubleshooting support or software support but an actual breakdown of hardware, you can still use the phone support.

Sorry about your troubles with your MBP:(

But I have a MB and I love it, no problems at all (except the palmrests stained), but Apple gave me a new one, so that's alright:)
