ARGGGHHHH!

My macbook pro had to have its screen replaced in April as it de-laminated. E.g. the oleophobic coating came off and made it look awful as though the screen was peeling away.

I haven't cleaned the screen since then because I honestly didn't dare to. I just cleaned it for the first time using water and the apple cloth that came with my macbook pro. And guess what!????

It is de-laminating immediately on first clean in the same place it did before at the bottom of the screen on the right hand side near the hinge.

I'm so f*cking angry about this. Where the hell did quality control go to with Apple?

Is this happening to anyone else?

Sorry to hear about this. What does de-lamination look like? My screen is streaky some times, but a few wipes with a slight damp cloth seems to clear it right up.

My 2012 rMBP had this happen but I had the screen replaced and have had no repeat issues. I use a soft cloth and water too. I clean it once a month. I'm scared about my screen cause it's been replaced twice. Once for image retention issues and second for the laminate anti glare coating coming off

It looks like the images on this website. http://www.staingate.org/ (don't worry, despite the name it won't be your risky click of the day!)

Both times mine have been at the lower end of the scale in terms of 'damage', but I am OCD with my apple devices and take a lot of pride in them, hence I am gutted about it. :(

I'd phone them and get it replaced again. Like I said, I haven't had the issue occur again so maybe, just maybe you got a faulty replacement or a screen from an old batch. I'd do it soon though cause the replacement program isn't forever.

Thanks, I plan to. I have arranged a call with them tomorrow so I can make the complaint / make them aware of the issue. Genius appointments don't seem to be able to be booked anymore. There used to be a link on the apple store app but that has gone. So first port of call is this phone call then hopefully a replacement!

it it is less than a year after replacement, they might be ok with replacing it again, sometimes does happen with this kind of coating, most however lasts 4-5 years just fine.

What are you using to clean the screen?

OP mentioned using water , now I wonder if this happens when cleaning, or happens sometime after the cleaning is done.

if the latter case, it could happen if the screen is left moist more than few mins.

there is a systemic problem with the laminate used. 3 different mbp, all have this problem. Get them to replace the screen. After I got mine replaced, I never use any type of cleaner other than water. Not that I did anything wrong before I got the delamination problem. I've never head any other laptop screen suffer this problem no matter what kind of cleaner I used.

Just the black microfibre cloth that came with the macbook and water is what I used to clean the new screen for the first time last night.

The screen was moistened with the cloth and then dried with the same cloth. I wet one half of it and kept the other half dry.

You must have acid in your water.

Sadly not.

that should be dry enough after you wipe them all not to cause delamination, should be the screen coating itself is not that good, it happens with this design, have good chance Apple willing to fix it for free.

They have already fixed it once for free in April. I spoke to them on the phone today and although there are no genius appointments this coming week near me (xmas week so no surprise) they said it would be replaced again as the new screen is less than a year old. So fingers crossed they honour that.

Same here! And I thought I was the only one... MBP late 2013. Got the screen replaced this summer and it's starting again now in the same way, like 2 thin lines running in parallel on the centre of the screen... Annoying. And I have not once done a wet cleaning of my screen, I only use a soft cloth from my optometrist...

This might be the reason to avoid the 2015 models as well. Take your chances with the 2016 dongle edition.

Out of curiosity do you use your machine in clamshell mode? I do, and noticed that my screen can be pretty warm when I touch it after an extended session with the screen closed using external monitors. It is most warm near the hinge and toward the center. I also heard on the iMore podcast that there was an issue with cooling when the screen was closed.

This is interesting finding, this might be what happened to my macbook white before, screen coating went bad, I rarely wipe my screen, and this happens sometimes after I have external display.

I hadn't heard any one else say this, but I had wondered about the heating / cooling issue at the bottom of the screen. I don't use it with a monitor. I use it as a regular laptop. The bar though still is warm to the touch. I also only waited to clean the screen after the macbook had been turned off and had a chance to cool, which is what the FAQ section of their website recommends.

When I saw the new Macbook Pro, with the aluminium hinge I wondered if this is one of the reasons it was swapped from plastic.

Did you pay for it?

I had my battery replaced and my screen should have been replaced but the Apple guys said there was a "worldwide shortage" which means that I'll have to bring it in February 2017, after it probably.

The screen was replace in April for the first time, and now it is de-laminating again. They said on the phone that they will replace it for free as it is still under a parts warranty / guarantee. The new screen being less than a year old.

As yet though, I haven't managed to take it to the Apple store as there are zero appointments available. I guess this is due to it being Christmas.
