But why get Apple's version of the truth?

When there is speculation and rumor.

Strange. I order min on the 2nd, and I got it today. I'm thinking some type of glitch.

Anyway, seems to me that there is no secrecy here. Apple has told him what's going on... demand is too high. I'm skeptical, but then again, we know for a fact that merom is not available, so if any changes are being made, I'd guess they are bug fixes.

Those of you experiencing delays, did you all order the 7200 RPM drive?

Ordered mine late may, got it today with the 120 gig 5400 RPM drive.

Well... both risc and robert-a-hudson are out of the US, so it could just be Apple's indecency towards our foreign friends...

Actually, I believe Apple usually concentrates stocks towards the US... Especially in Australia, products often ship much later...

A full month later!!!!!! That is in no way acceptable. Unless you're getting some type of discount by buying directly from apple, I say get a refund and visit a authorized dealer.

Yeah, I would go to a reseller, but I got UK HE Discount when I brought online... may ring em up tho, since they have already take £1600 out of my account...

This is interesting. I ordered my MBP via Apple with HE discount yesterday. They told me it would be 'up to' 7 working days, which I thought was a bit slow! I hope it doesn't get delayed too long.

Still, if they're feverishly fixing the whining in the meantime, I won't be complaining :)

I've been waiting nearly a month...

...for my MBP 17" (1GB ram, matte screen, 7200 rpm HD).

I ordered it on the 16th of May, estimated shipping was delayed 2x (currently due to be delayed again on June 12th). I called and asked why the delay and was given no reply other than "we are shipping them as soon as the are built". (Just not to me)

To dispel the notions that only "foreigners" are getting the rapid response treatment I should point out that I'm in the US.

I had assumed that the delay was related to the fact that this was an institutional purchase (not a personal purchase through an institution), and was acquired at a heavily discounted price.

As a switcher, I must confess as to being underwhelmed by Apple's spectacular customer service thus far.

P.S. I'm terrified that when it arrives it will be an overheating, noisy, poorly fitted, short-lived turd.

Is it not just possible that alot of college students are purchasing their computers for next semester.... in which they would have to be shipping a load of computers.... could this not be it

I second bbrosemer's post. I bought my MBP in Orlando a few weeks ago and the guy said they'd gotten in a shipment that morning and were really low. He was afraid they were out of them. Most of the sales were kids getting ready for school.

I know that here in town (FSU and FAMU both), it's almost impossible to get a new machine from June to August, Apple or PC. I used to work in a computer store and we'd get 20 machines in a week (a lot compared to normal) and sell out of em in 2 or 3 days. Usually 20 machines would last us 3 months.

That's just weird--I ordered the same config (except I didn't have the choice of a non-matte screen) around the 1st of May, and mine shipped the 8th of May, only a couple days after the people who ordered on the day they were announced. Usually availablility gets better, not worse, as time goes on. At the time the Apple store was saying 5-7 day wait on the 17", which was exactly correct, and that's still what it says.

Either there's been a huge spike in demand for some reason (and the iPod promo can't be it, both because most college students probably aren't buying the 17", and because it only was announced a few days ago), or there's a holdup in the manufacturing process somewhere.

If it's a "good" holdup, they're doing a minor revision to deal with thermal issues or something (though really, as far as I can tell, the only revision that might be needed is better thermal paste application on the factory line and maybe updated firmware), if it's a "bad" holdup the factory is having a problem building the things.

Maybe all the people who don't like buying right after release waited a month, and now they've all ordered at once?

I ordered mine at 10PM june 5th, it shipped at 8AM June 8th from Shanghai. According to tracking, should be here monday the 12th.

It was a 15" MBP 2.16GHz, Glossy screen, 1 GB ram, 100GB 7200RPM HD.

Complain to apple.

Another very quick way to boost the speed of it is contact you local media station because some times they will pick up a story like this and start ripping apple a new one.

There is no excuse why apple has these very very poor shipping policy. It is one thing for the oginal shipping date to be a while. It is a complete another thing for the shipping date to be pushed back a few weeks.

Apple needs to clean up their act and the only way for that is for them start getting a lot of media attention on it. They deserve the bad media attiantion on this part and a lot of it.

If a media station gets involved a lot of times companies are very willing to speed things up because bad press hurts a lot.

My 15" MBP was ordered on 6/6/6 and delivered on 6/8/6, so no complaints here, aside from the occasional blood running out of the CD drive.
