regarding the original notebook, it could also be that the battery cannot deliver enough current.
Did the crash happen with the powersupply or without?
If it happens without only - then you might have to change the battery.
I'm still using a MacBook Pro 2012 (yes it's heavy...) - it's absolutely okay and the advantage is that you can still plug a normal SSD into it.

MJRx, yes the battery has been replaced a year ago, and I did install an SSD a couple years ago. When the crash happened the power supply was plugged, I almost never use just the battery. Thanks!

Try a ram/memorycheck and diskcheck.

- We also have a macbook air with 2gb ram which just doesn't work properly after some time -- but that's due to not enough memory.
- my mac just crashed yesterday because one application went crazy and allocated 37gb ram (seems like mac is doing some memory compression which slows down everything first but once things are severe the system starts to crash).

Hi everyone,

My mid-2010 macbook pro is shutting down or restarting randomly. One of these is what I see:

View attachment 1954425

I have a feeling that it's because I have an outdated OSX, which is El Capitan, which I keep because I have some programs that won't work on a new version.

Can you give me your thoughts on if the outdated OSX is the problem? I also do have issues with certain websites giving me privacy connection errors, which I do think is because of the OSX.

Should I upgrade the OSX and lose my programs to solve the problem? Or is it time for new computer due to the age of my macbook?

Thanks so much!
Lynne
It's TWELVE years old! I'd say spaff out for a new machine
