my 2014 MBP that had this problem finally died today. After a 1 logic board replacement, 1 battery replacement, and many many chargers. I guess 6 years is what we can expect out of an Apple these days. My 1st Gen 2006 MBP (yes, the very FIRST MBP) is in rough shape, but it's STILL RUNNING.

You don't have a local shop you can try for logic board repair? A blown cap, if that's all it turns out to be, doesn't have to carry a death sentence.
 
Logic board repair STARTS at $250. I'm reluctant to start sinking money into this 6yr old machine that was designed poorly from the start, only to get another year of life out of it, and never fully being able to trust it. It also eats chargers every few months.
