:) Now if we could just get others to post the same info, including people who received the Fujitsu drive.

Matte != Fuji

Matte
In-store purchase (Plano, TX, USA)
Nov 2nd
Hitachi HTS541612J9SA00

Guess I blew the theory linking matte screens to Fujis...

Interesting thread.

Mine has the Hitachi and it's a 2.16 GHz.

Can someone please let me know if their Hitachi lets off somewhat of a "Geiger counter" sound when accessing data. Mine definitely seems louder than other MBP's I've used.

could you post the numbers before the harddrive in the invoice, like this:

ok, idea, every one who got there's post the numbers beside the hard drive in the invoice, and which one you got. IE:

The unit above contains the following options: Processor 065-6642 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 065-6619 2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM-2x1GB

Hard Drive 065-6623 120GB Serial ATA Drive@5400rpm

Optical Drive 065-6625 SuperDrive 6X
Display 065-6632 15" Glossy Widescreen Display
Modem 065-6645 None
Apple Software Solutions 065-6200 None
Keyboard/Mac OS Language 065-6627 BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS
Country Kit/AEX 065-6628 Country Kit

That clicking sound is usually not a good thing :( . I would exchange the drive.

I think that the word Super here was just used to demonstrate that on paper the PMR drives are faster than the lateral ones.

Both the 120GB PMR and the 160GB PMR 5,400 drives are made by Hitachi and i doubt that any one is really any faster than the other.

The Fujitsu drive is PMR

http://www.fujitsu.com/global/services/computing/storage/hdd/mhdd/mhw2xxxbh-catalog.html

It's also a lot quieter than the Hitachi drive. I have two MBP C2D. One with the Hitachi 5k120 and one with the Fujitsu MHW2120BH. Doing the same Java compilation on both machines (identical specs otherwise), I can do an entire compilation of a lot of source code in 2 minutes 55 seconds on the MBP w/ the Fujitsu drive and 3 minutes 15 seconds on the MBP w/ the Hitachi drive.
