My refurb RevA just came via FedEx ---- I've already opened it to look at it, and can't wait to get home to turn it on.......ahhh.:apple::apple::D

Hahahaha! Mine's coming tomorrow. I'm already setting up the things I'm going to do as soon as I open the package (install VirtualBox, WinXP, XCode, and MSOffice; slim down the OS; etc). I even have the Incipio case coming in tomorrow, too! :p

IMHO your time is better spent first charging it to 100%, then do installs and drain back down to 1% then leave it alone for a few hours and charge it back up again.

Will do and thanks for the tip. But I'm sure that I'll power it on for an hour to shake it out and my wife will want to try it...:D

Having used mine all day I'm pretty impressed. It's fast, and I notice the weight difference in my bag. The screen's brilliant, I do web work and the the macbooks screen was never very sensitive to gradients, the Air's seems to get the colour just right, much brighter too, I've found myself turning it down 3-4 notches as it's too bright.

Just looking for a case, had a one of those skin tight ones for the macbook, but it's a bit loose on this, anyone know where I can get the same thing but smaller for the Air?

+1 went for it.

Thanks for this thread and your messages - I also took the plunge today - and your posts helped me decide - after a bit of a sales job to my bookkeeper (mrs turmoil) I ordered the $999 refurb. I am retiring a 12 G4 and I think it will be a much loved computer in my home. I will post my impressions after I set it all up.

Hi,
What condition are these arriving in? Reason I ask is that last refurb I bought was a BlackBook and that was badly scratched and well used.

Do these look brand new? Maybe old stock getting cleared?

Especially interested in UK purchases.

Thanks.

Glyn.

The most I'll be doing is Photoshop work with a fair few layers(but nothing overly complex)and quite a bit of photo manipulation, possibly in Aperture. I'm thinking that I'll be expecting too much of it, what with driving a second 24" screen as well.
Regardless, it's nice to see genuine and thoughtful observations on the A's real-world usage from all of you, and I'm glad you're all so happy with this machine that is all-too-often utterly written off.
Be well.

I've been using my Air for Photoshop - again, nothing complicated, currently working on a web site that's 4.8mb for all the graphics in the file. I generally have iTunes, FireFox, Safari, MSN and Text Wrangler open at the same time - no problems. I've not used Aperture so couldn't comment.

I did connect my 24" monitor yesterday whilst doing some edits of CSS - keeping the code on the Air's screen and the site on the 24 whilst watching TV using Zattoo, all worked fine. The fans did come on, but I'd expect that. I didn't notice any slow down.

Not yet tested Parallels with it, as I've not found the time for the install and setup.

I had the same doubts as yourself about using the Air, I like to keep everything on one machine so it's just there, whenever I need it - splitting files onto two machines has never worked for me. Having the 14 day return policy gives you two weeks to test drive one, after 2 days I think it's much more likely i'll see the whitebook hitting eBay than i'll be sending the Air back.

One thing that I have found - the screen really helps out in Photoshop, I wasn't able to see the subtle differences in gradients on the macbook, but on the Air I can - maybe it's my ailing eyes!

Mine came as new other than the powerback which looked used, the adaptors all looked new. I tried as hard as I could to find an imperfection on it but I couldn't - all of the plastic wrapping was still in place. Mine was delivered by UPS and it looked like something pretty heavy had fallen on the middle of the box, it was really well packed and fortunately nothing inside was damaged. I do wonder if they're old stock being re-packaged and sold off, maybe surplas that was never boxed up for retail?

unfortunately mine arrived with several dings, scratches, and a small hair permanently anodized into the alunminum on the front. Other than that, the screen is great, and the computer works fine. I called Apple care to make sure this gets onto the records incase in the future I am denied apple care service because of a badly treated laptop.

the person wouldn't hear any of it and insisted on having it replaced. Hopefully, the replacement will be better.

Not a scratch anywhere:)

My Air arrived a few minutes ago at work, in perfect condition. I inspected the machine quickly, and it is brand new as far as I can see, even its accoutrement appeared brand new.

I booted it up, and it came on instantly. I will play with the HDD model, but I think I will definitely keep the SDD Air.

Mine came in today and it was packaged like MorningZ's. Casing and screen appear flawless and accessories look new even though they were in an "Apple Recertified" box. Battery was discharged so I plugged it in and installed updates. Now, it's shut down and recharging...:)

Hi all,

I can get a macbook air for £770 through work, it's a refurb from the apple store. I'm currently pretty happy with my macbook, the key things attracting me to the Air are the better screen and the weight + looks. How much better is the screen?

Are there still problems with YouTube etc, overheating?

Finally is £770 a good deal?

Any advice much appreciated.

Viking Direct are selling the 1.8Ghz Macbook Air Rev A. (New) for £749 (plus VAT). Mine is coming today.

Glad to hear this thread's helped people, thanks to everyone who provided me with feedback on the air. I've been really happy with my purchase so far.

Just looking to buy a SuperDrive and a 2.5" external drive to backup to. I haven't missed the whitebook yet, migration assistant's pretty good!

after reading through a bunch of rev.A MBA threads i'm still a bit unsure and hesitant to pull the trigger. is the overheating/shutdown issue somewhat hit-or-miss, some machines performing worse than others? at this price i'm looking to pick one up for my mom (her first mac or pc), but on top of basic netbook requirements i also want her to be able to watch movies and video without having the thing crap out. a valid concern or am i worrying for nothing here?
