I disagree, I think you should wait.

I agree. Take it from someone who bought the iMac G5 two weeks before the Intel iMac came out, because I listened to everyone on this site who said "no way will they update the iMac so soon." There are some big advantages to a Core 2 Duo, most notably the fact that it's a 64 bit processor and Leopard is going to make that more meaningful. Plus the first round of Mac Books has had some problems, a new revision would be nice. And it's always possible that they'll update the video. So wait. The Apple updates in the past year have come rapidly and have been surprisingly meaningful -- just look how much the iMac has gone down in price and up in features in the past year.

It's true that Leopard will have 64 bit support, but most third party apps aren't going to for a while, and when they do 64 bit will be old news.

Most third-party mac apps aren't even intel-native yet, fcol.

Amen to that...I listened to people on the forums and bought my mac mini THREE DAYS before they were upgraded to intel-based macs. I practically took it out the box loaded it up and BAM new mac mini's. I was pissed:mad:
Now I need a new Blackbook but I know better now and will wait it out. I suggest you do the same for all the reasons mentioned above, if not for you own peace of mind.

I agree with the wait!

The refurb whitebook 2.0 is gonna be like 800 when the macbooks are updated! If you buy one now you are taking a big hit!

You could have returned it for an Intel one - I think you get about a week to do it.

This isn't going to be anything big like the Intel switch though - a slight spec bump at most, and for school work, you wouldn't need anything quicker.

i'm going insane waiting for the update it's been like 170 days!!! i really want one for school, and at this point i can't buy one now, not with the new one coming out soon!!! When are they gonna release it.. I really need one,,please Apple!!!!

Most PC manufacturers are still using Core Duo's in their low end notebooks... The MBs might not be upgraded as soon as a lot of people on these forums think they will be. After all apple was a little late to update their pro line, why do people assume they will be one of the first to update the lower end models.

That's a totally different situation. Apple changed its 'brand' of processors, not just a regular speed bump. The MacBook already has a built-in iSight and everything the iMac G5 had before it switched over. They did double processor speeds, but that won't happen with the MacBook with the speeds it is at right now.

Right on. Wait or buy, but it won't matter much.

I too am growing impatient with the wait for the new Macbooks, the reason for my wait however is not that I think that Core 2 Duos would make a big difference, but from the day the current Macbooks were released I said to myself that I wouldn't buy it until RevB came out, at least have the kinks fixed and not many serious issues threatening a beautiful machine.

P.S. I think that going to Core 2 Duos from PowerPCs will actually make a major difference. Therefore I'm getting tired of hanging on to my PBG4 :/

I bought my macbook in September and i never had a problem with it. Its seems strange to read all these post about them over heating and shutting off. The macbook thats out right now is a great machine. I simply wish i could upgrade the memory to at least 3 or 4 gigs. I doubt if there going to give the macbook a video card i guess the new processor C2D but at a lower clock speed than the pro version. Truthfully i dont think the difference between the macbook and the macbook pro merit such a price difference.

But i would say if you dont need one right this minute then wait for it. But if you truly need a computer, i would just go ahead and buy it. I bought mine because i needed for my graduate classes. I needed a computer that was more moble than powerful. I hope you make the right decision for yourself.

MacBook sales are still so strong it would be pure altruism for Apple to upgrade, giving more for less, this year.

It was necessary to upgrade the iMac because sales of desktops are quite stagnant. MacBook Pro upgrade was needed to justify the price differential with the MacBook.

MacBook sales are racing ahead and second only to the iPod Nano.

The only rational for a MacBook upgrade would be if C2D run at significantly lower temps and that was seen as desirable.

In a lifetime MACeteers will sometimes buy on the up and sometimes on the down. Buying a PC or Windows Laptop upgrade is much less obvious - just whatever GHz on that particular day.

If you need it buy it - it's wonderful. If you don't need it - wait!

Altruism?!? :)

It would make sense for them to upgrade at this stage given that they are still competing with the PC world (albeit indirectly, they are still targetting switchers heavily remember). Also every other computer vendor would ahve reduced the cost of the machines since release. This is not really Apple's style (though not unheard of) so a bump would make the most sense.

The difference between the black macbook and the low end mbp is very small in terms of price. They need to address that imo.

I do concede though they don't really need to address this until the new year.

If apple doesn't put in C2D until December,,they should atleast issue a pricedrop,,because these macbooks have been the same price for like 5-6 months,

also a pricedrop, would help apple gain more sales before the release of the new macbook....

but anyhow,, i'm really wanting a macbook and at this point, i won't buy one until they update it.

Buy now and don't look back. Who knows how long you might wait until the new one comes out.

i disagree

i think at this point, u should wait,, why pay that much for a 6 month old machine,, be patient and wait for the new macbook,,it will be worth it,,the macbook should be out for the holiday season, be patient

trust me,, u will regret it once the newer model comes out,,the new model will cost the same but have better specs..so wait!! LOL

My view on the MacBook Release

We al know a updated MacBook Is bound to be released in next couple moths, (possibly weeks)

when do u think the new macbook will be released??

i personally guess it will be next tuesday, or the tuesday after that,,
apple wants to make profit from the macbook pros before releasing the new macbook, but they want to release it before the holiday shopping season, plus macbook sales are going down becasue more and more people are waiting for the updated one, plus, back to school notebook shopping has ended so it makes sense that apple releases the macbook in the next couple weeks,

it's also been 170 days since the macbook has ben released, that's a long time,, the mac book pro's average days till released is 140, so we should be seeing a new macbook hit stores soon,,,

everyone is saying that they want to keep a difference between the macbook pro and the macbook, and many people are saying they won't add
C2D till next year, but i disagree, there are already laptops with C2D, and apple needs to compete,

and for colours? i hope they don't release a red macbook, that'd be terrible. and i hope they make the black colour an option, i'd hate to see what they did this year, have the higher end model come in black and the lower end in white, i'd like to be able to choose between both colours with all models of the macbook

i'd say next tuesday, if not defintly the tuesday after that,

I kinda want them to keep the gap between the macbook pro and the macbook

Why? so you can feel superior to those with a macbook. Ohh please doesn't anyone realize that the macbook is much smaller than the mbp and that alone is a selling point that attracts people.
