I sat in the Apple Store for 30 minutes and looked at the Black model and the White model of MacBook. The black model made me drool, the white did not. I have never been a fan of the iBook, primarily since it is white. Same goes for the MacBook. The glossy, easy to smudge and scratch, white surface just doesn't do it for me. The black however looks very nice, but still has its own issues. I bought the black model, and from my experience, this is what I have found.

I have barely used the trackpad and it is stained where my fingers were.

The black shows fingerprints and smudges, but cleans up very nicely.

The black seems to attract every bit of lint and white fuzz in the house.

On a totally different subject of the MacBook, I REALLY like the screen with its glossy finish. It looks beautiful. I put it up against my MacBook Pro and the MBP looks dingy and blurry. If I got another MacBook Pro it would be with the glossy screen. Everything seems brighter, sharper, and more in contrast which gives deeper colors on the screen.

I have both. One is going, and I am not sure which. I love the look and feel of the MacBook, I just don't think I want to be cleaning it every other day. I like the MacBook Pro, but don't care for the screen look in comparison to the MacBook. In a couple days I will make up my mind and decide which goes and which stays.

Most laptops in the PC world, esp. the cheaper ones, are black. White is what makes Mac laptops special. Go with white. White is best.

I second that. The glossy screen looks much better than the matte Finish. The only problem someone might have with a MB screen would be the one who uses PS or some other app which needs colors to be more real. Glossy screen is the best for everything else.

I hear all of you saying that you would save money buying RAM seperately, but when I searched online on Froogle, all the 1 GB models were over $100. I plan on getting the 1.83 MacBook with 1 GB ram, and perhaps adding another 1 GB if I find a cheap one.

So, where do you guys/girls know where I can find a cheaper 1 GB model?

Apple sells the MacBook with both ram slots occupied. So if you want to go from 1 to 2 GB later on, you have to remove all ram that came with the MacBook and replace it with 2 modules of 1GB each.

I think, when I bought 1GB of ram for my MacBook Pro, I paid about $150. Apple charges to upgrade the MacBook to 2GB $500. So the ram I bought is still much cheaper than Apples.

Wow I didn't notice that. Thanks for the heads up. Forget it then. 1 GB is enough.

IMO, white screams, "I can't afford a real MacBook / MacBook Pro... So I got this white education model instead."

Should i really tear apart the above statement? Sure....a "real Apple Mac" first....Apple is the company, the computers are Macintoshes.....secondly, this is, in your words, a "real Apple Mac". How would it not be a "real Apple Mac"???
Education model?....come on...give me a break. Maybe in that people buying the MB are using their education to see a better buy, to make a purchase that does not have extras that are unnecessary for the majority of consumers and professionals ? In that case, i would agree.

Otherwise your above statement is totally FUBAR, not to mention incorrect.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you dont have to be condescending when stating it.

The MacBook with 1GB BTO is 2 so-dimms (2x512MB). To go to 2GB, you would have to buy two 1GB sticks.

The 1.83 GHz white model with 2 GB RAM will be faster than the 2.0 GHz black model with 1 GB RAM. Unless you care for the SuperDrive or the color, go for the white 1.83. I got a 2.0 because I need the SD, but I would say: Get 2 GB RAM:cool:
