Apple is becoming a victim of their success. With all the sales of iPods, they are getting a lot of people buying Macs because it is "cool" or "trendy" or "it matches my decor". These same people know little about computers and set their expectations WAY too high to a level Apple could never meet.

I agree that the warping issue thats been discussed here is just nit-picking. But there have been a series of issues with these new Macbooks which are not just examples of people setting their standards too high. NO £800-£1000 laptop bought from a well established and respected company should turn yellow after a few weeks (or any number of weeks) use. That's just a blatant disregard for the intelligence of their customers if they think that people will happily purchase off Apple in the future when their present laptop has turned a horrible shade of brown.

I could say the same about the whining/mooing, but as I've never had first-hand experience of these issues, I won't (although the number of people complaining about it makes me believe that it isn't just the overly fussy complaining).

It's not to say that they couldn't make these things more 'solid'. For example if they designed the MBP screen so that it would have a 'shroud lip' that wrapped around from where the Expressport ends and wrapped around all the way around the top of the screen to where the Kensington lock port begins (this would entail somehow moving the DVD drive, IR port and latch slightly lower down to accomodate the lip), then the lip would provide an additional degree of structural integrity and you would have fewer mentions about warping. However complaints of fingers being slammed by the lip when the laptop is being closed will rocket ;) Any other solution to lend additional structural integrity to the screen assembly will probably increase bulk. And yes, maybe they should have a fan that moves more air, regardless of the noise it generates. It's all about compromises.

However the yellowing issue (no problems so far with mine) shows that not all problems are down to user over-expectation. I do think that they could have chosen a better material for the case but they have rather painted themselves into a corner by the 'iPod association'.

It must be hard being Apple right now. I really don't envy them their success. It's built not on delivering commodity but on delivering excellence, and that's a tough act to keep rolling.

If it really really bothers you, then send it back, but if its not affecting performance, then does it really matter? BUT you have to bear in mind that one of the reasons people buy Apple hardware is for looks, so if it isnt perfect, maybe its worth returning it
