Mostly resolved--bully for JetRAM!

Thanks for the tips, brbubba and mrichmon--I didn't think MS would re-activate under this condition but I will call.

Also, good outcome here--I went to Fry's and got the JetRAM/Transcend memory and it was indeed slimmer and FAR easier to seat in the MB than the G.Skill (though slightly more $$). Better yet, all the memory checked out and is working great without issues so far. 2GB and flying! Yeah Baby!

Only unresolved issue--and haven't noticed it today--is the repeating hard drive "plink" noise--a real "plink," (like it was parking itself repeatedly) not the standard chatter of an hd. Sounds almost like a metallic object expanding when heated. But having faced more worrisome challenges and come out on top, I'm feeling sanguine about that and will probably just pop a 120 or 160 (when available) Gb SATA drive in there eventually. Maybe sooner than I had planned if the noise bugs me too much.

Glad to have this resource and other forums like this to help in times of worry; thanks all for feedback & sharing solutions.

does it happen when you move the think as thats the noise the hd makes when the motion sensor goes off.

Hi, new to this forum. Currently considering getting a macbook with educational discount - bit put off by all these horror stories though. Really want 2 gigs of ram but its still 300 quid from apple

Im not sure what to do although apple did say I was doing everything right. I asked apple whether they would be able to install it for me next time incase the same thing happens again, and they said that they did not install third party RAM, only RAM purchased from apple. But it is alot more expensive to buy RAM from apple £300 for 2x1GB when i got it for £120. Also i wouldn't want the 2x1GB RAM i have now to be wasted and be unused.

Maybe like mrichmon said, i just got a machine with badly installed levers and hopefully when i get my replacement macbook, I will be able to install them properly and get the machine working.

Where did you get two 1gig sticks for £120 please? I found some for 190 quid from crucial, who are meant to be decent i think.
