This still isn't fixed.....

My MBP 2.4 w 256 8600gt still stutters REALLY bad in COD2. One fix: running it under boot camp. As lame as that is it runs 150-250 fps at max rez, direct x7, no AA, and certain textures turned down.

Here's what makes me angry....

If it works under vista its obviously an OSX problem.....either with the game in OSX, OSX itself, or like everyone is saying the OSX NVidia drivers.

I'm really still just hoping for a fix.....im getting sick of having a Vista partition just to play COD2 decently.

Do you only have a problem with this specific game? (Sorry if you said this before, I don't particularly want to read the whole thread)

Try opening System Profiler, then under Graphics/Displays. Check the PCIe Lane Width reports x16, as it should. Mine often doesn't, leading to dismal performance in all demanding games. I believe it's a hardware issue, only fixed by a logic board replacement. Other times, it behaves itself, and works like a charm.

Also, try putting in the first system install DVD that came with the computer, and restart while holding down the "d" key. You can then run a hardware diagnostic.

Unfortunately, it seems that Windows will always run games much better than OSX. Every game I have ever seen on both runs literally twice as well on the same machine under Windows. I play a few games myself and always run bootcamp for it. Apparently they are trying to address this issue on 10.6 but who knows until its out....

if 10.6 fixes my 8600gt - COD2 mac problem i will be very happy....but what if its an NVidia/Mac drivers problem?
