I haven't seen this posted elsewhere, so here goes:

MacDailyNews RUMOR: Apple iPhone to feature more features than expected

These would be new features at launch, not at a later date. A few choice improvements over what we expect:

• More memory than 4GB and 8GB
• User Replacable Battery
• Wireless N Support
• Software - variation of iWork
• iTunes Streaming
• iTunes Store - download using Wi-Fi internet or if you have internet service through your carrier (AT&T in the USA).
• Price / AT&T Service Plans - rebate with a 2-year contract and special iPhone plans from AT&T.

Too good to be true? Yes... I recommend everyone oooh and aaah over this, but consider it highly improbable. Not because it is, but because the potential for disappointment is huge.
 
That would be so cool. My iPod was stolen out of my car on Friday and I was planning to wait until the iPhone comes out to see if they bumped the memory specs. This gives me just a bit more hope!

Just out of curiousity, where do you park your car and when will the iPhone be in it? :)

Just kidding.
 
Just double the memory would be great. Add all that other stuff and everyone else might as well stop making phones...

Thanks. I actually wasn't planning on buying an iPhone (I've got a blackjack and had a 5th gen iPod) because 8gb just wasn't enough for my 19gb music collection. Maybe it was stolen to free up room in my electronics arsenal so I could get the new and updated iphone...

Thats the funny part. I live in the middle of suburbia out here in Portland, and have lived in the same area for 10 years. In all that time we have left our cars unlocked, and often the house. I've left my phone, wallet, computer, and iPod in unlocked car (by accident, I'm forgetful) overnight and nothing ever happened. Friday night myself and 4 friends packed up the car to drive to the sasquatch music festival up in Washington. We were up until midnight and I got up at 4am to go, and when I got up and got in the car I realized someone had gone through the glove compartment leaving $22 in cash, all the camping gear (including 2 gallons of hard A and a case of beer), but taking the iPod and two car adapters. Very weired.

Anyway sorry about the thread-jacking, I just had to vent.


Back on topic:
I agree with JohnNotBeatle, that maybe one or two of these things could happen but all of them is a bit much. I think a memory bump would be in order, as flash prices have undoubtedly dropped since when it was announced. However...wireless N and iWork? No way.
 
The wireless N is the only pointless addition, IMO. Honestly, why would you need technology that'll be bottlenecked anyways. N is really only useful in home networking.. not for a phone.

Aside from that, however, I don't think it's so improbable that the specs of the iPhone will be updated at launch. For one, that keeps competitors on their toes - especially the ones already working on the "iPhone killer" and copying all of the features Jobs listed during the keynote. Secondly, the ONLY benefit I see to having announced the iPhone so far in advance is that they could get plenty of feedback before a single one had shipped. After 6 months, everyone and their mothers have criticized the shortcomings of the iPhone's feature set. Now Apple has the opportunity to respond without having stumbled at all. Lastly, by updating the phones, Apple generates a whole new wave of hype to get people out at stores, wallets open (because let's face it, for most, 6 months is too long to ride on the keynote speech.. and if Apple really is going to hit their 1% goal with a $500 phone, they need a lot of people to buy on spontaneity without considering the consequences).

I'm only surprised by the lack of 3G speculation. Not including this on such an expensive phone seems silly to me, even with Wi-Fi.

iWork would rock, iTunes stuff would be great. And up the storage, while offer price cut(in one way or the other) would be very very welled.
 
I definitely think that the iPhones will be a higher capacity. Maybe 6GB and 10GB, or whatever. Apple did the same for the original MBP, everyone went from 1.66 CD -> 1.83 CD and a 1.83 CD - > 2.0 CD. I would not be surprised by Apple upgrading the memory before shipment. Then, they can pat themselves on the back and give us "a better product."

Going down the list--

More memory would be nice. I'm still waiting for someone to annouce the rumor for the "shuffle" version of the iPhone.

User replaceaple battery? Which one? Presumably they mean the one for the phone

Wireless N would be great for networking, obviously, but is it really going to make that much of a difference. I guess it could if you had...

iTunes Streaming. But now what will we do with our AppleTVs?

Software: Well editing audio/video on a phone would be, um, interesting. iWorks would be nice, especially if at first there are no third party apps. Need to look at those memos and spreadsheets you never used on your desktop.

ITMS: So how exactly is the authorizing process going to work now?

Rebate: Didn't the Seattle article cover that?

For sure, Jobs is keeping a few cards (aces!!!) close to his vest. He's not the one to show his hand until the absolutely last, dramatic moment. As you brought up, it's hard to ooh and aah the crowd with a six-month-old feature set.

iPhone doesn't have two batteries. That was a rumor started by Kevin Rose (along with a bunch of other completely wrong specs).

The speed won't be that noticeable, but the increased range might.

I'm wondering that myself. Apple might have a deal/technology worked out already if they plan to introduce this on iPhone, future iPods, and AppleTV.
 
I still have a suspicion / hope that there will be some kind of cohesive way to stream media between your mac, your appletv (if you have one), and your iphone (if you have one). All your media will still reside on your mac, which can sync / stream to your appletv. Then you can also sling your media from your mac to your iphone if you are on the road. Or, you could play media from your iphone on someone else's appletv by streaming it. I hope apple has a cool way to bring this all together. I don't really see what is stopping them from doing it, and it would really fit into their idea of an all apple media ecosystem.

Since Kevin was wrong on everything else, I don't see why he would be right about that. Since we haven't heard it from any other source, I have nor eason to believe it. I might as well assume that iPhone runs on unicorns.

I think Rose was the victim of Apple mis-information, which I heard they put out before the iphone was announced in order to throw people off.

That said, there is a black plastic (slide off?) portion at the bottom on the back of the phone where, one would assume, the sim and battery go.
