I've been using the first GM install for a week or 2 now, MB 5,1 (late 2008). Everything is working perfectly for me (including camera and Siri). Only thing not working is AirDrop for some reason, but I'm not sure if it's due to my system (I never tried it on previous OS).
AirDrop isn't supported on that machine with any version of OS X.

My 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 has been updated to 5,1. I successfully updated to Sierra with no patch needed. Everything appears to be working. I will let all know if I encounter any issues.

No, you can simply install overtop your El Capitan install, and it'll work just fine. As for Software Updates, no, you will not be notified of new 10.12.x updates (most likely), and will need to run the tool in order for them to show up. Every time you open the tool, though, it will check for updates and prompt you to install it if an update is available.

OK thanks, got it!

Updated successfully to the final release with the latest version available of the patch. Thanks everyone!

Just finished the new build of the tool! You can now initiate the download of Sierra from the "Other" menu in the menu bar. Enjoy, and let me know how it works! http://dosdude1.com/sierra/macOS Sierra Patcher.zip Just note that no error catching has been implemented yet, so it may say it succeeded, but not actually work.

Question ....

I had resigned myself to MacPro 2008 not getting the MacOs Sierra, so i was surprised to see it available in the app store on my mac and available to download ??

Is there a chance Apple have changed its stance or is it a strange glitch that it's allowing me to download the update installer on an unsupported mac ?

Hi Dosdude1 and the community! I have a macbook late 2008 with SSD and I increased the memory to 5GB of RAM. Will the patch work with this configuration? Thank you for your help !

It seemed to start to work. It downloaded about 1GB (as seen in Activity Monitor) but then popped open a password prompt and stopped downloading.

Update 1:
I take that back -- it started up again. It just paused for 5 minutes. So, I'm hopeful it will complete. Will update when it does.

Update 2:
Yup, it downloaded successfully. Sweet! Thank you!

One side benefit of downloading via mas command line utility (either directly or @foxlet DownloadSierra Utility or now @dosdude1 ) is that it doesn't seem to register with Apple MAS. You can pull it down multiple times. Just tried it. However, on my "supported" mac from a legitimate developer account, the store no longer allows me to do so. Thinks I already have it coz (i guess?) i downloaded GM there. Apple is frustrating me to no end these days...

Does the trackpad issue affect the MBP 5,1 or just the MBP 5,2? I don't want to install on my 5,1 if the trackpad won't work properly.

New patch tool , downloaded Sierra fine here. after downloading , I Logggged back in to my own apple account , and it say its downloaded there to !. but I can't instal it over my current, GM build. so tomorrow . il try making a usb installer.

Installer stucked in 12 minutes last 30min. And this my second time try and stuck always there. I used dosdude1 patch create installer. My iMac Earlier 2009 2.93MHz CPU/ATI 4850. Changed my third party ram to with stock rams but still stuck in 12 min. What do you suggest?

Edit:
Fixed the problem. Problem is my fusion drive broke when using installer. I create a new fusion drive and past the 12 minutes and installed Sierra.

I'm working on adding the mas tool as a feature of the Sierra Patch Tool, however the limitation I' running in to is that it only works if the app has been previously purchased on a supported machine . . .

dosdude1, I am a bit mystified by this statement, because I used the mas-cli tool to download 16A323 on my UNSUPPORTED early 2009 iMac. At the time, I already had 16A319 installed on my machine using your patch tools.

Hi - for version 4.0.5 , is the kext list in your about credits still current? Just tracking down a potential kext issue issue with my mbp 5,3. Thanks.

When you state "that it doesn't seem to register with Apple MAS", are you saying that, similar to what I experienced earlier this morning, while mas-cli downloads the installer, it does not appear as an entry on the "Purchased" tab in the App Store app?
