Has anybody solved this issue with inoperable keyboard and touchpad in macbook pro early 2009? Or maybe something changed in next betas and the problem doesn't show now. I would like to install sierra again but I have some concerns.

You just have to make sure SIP is disabled and run the post-install patch, and you won't have that issue.

Last time when I installed Sierra described problem appeared after few days. Installation via your method went smooth. So, if I clearly understand I need to install Sierra the same as previous, and have to have SIP disabled all the time? I want to be sure because inoperable keyboard and trackpad happened after macbook reboot, few days after Sierra installation.

Yes, SIP must be disabled at all times while running Sierra, and you shouldn't have any issues.

It's perfectly safe, no point in SIP but to prevent users from changing system files.

As written much earlier I did install Sierra as per guidance. Ran into keyboard and mouse issues after a few days. Reinstalled El Cap. backup. After seeing the recent posts I would like to try again.

If I disable SIP under El Cap, will that suffice? Or, do I also need to use Terminal under Sierra, also? Thanks!
Also, after returning to El Cap, I no longer have my El Cap. recovery drive when holding option key. I always had it prior to the 1st Sierra trial. Any ideas on this?

You can disable SIP on any OS that supports it, as it is simply a system NVRAM variable. As for the recovery HD being missing, sometimes it doesn't make it for whatever reason. There is a utility that exists that allows you to make your own Recovery HD.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for this great opportunity to use Sierra!!!
Thank You for your great work!
Also thank's to the one who posted about the updated wifi / bluetooth card on my early 2008 3,1. I just installed tonight and all is working great!! Love handoff.
I can not believe I have a new mac now and only spending $120, I should be good for another 5 plus years.

Thank You all!!!! Without you, none of this would be possible!

dude1,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I may be "thick" but still need slight clarification. If I disable SIP under the existing El Cap. system, will it be re-enabled once Sierra is installed? Or will it remain not enabled due to the prior setting? Thanks.

Once disabled, SIP will not be re-enabled unless you set it to be enabled, or reset your system's NVRAM/PRAM.

Excellent response, because one of my "go to" fixes when things were awry was to reset the PRAM. Didn't understand what it entailed but it usually improved things. If I do have to reset the PRAM will the keyboard issue arise immediately or do I have some time to disable SIP? Thanks again.

Hello to all! First of all I want to thank all people that make Sierra available on "old" macs.

I have MacBookPro5,2 (17" Mid 2009). As you know it has two graphic cards:

  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, PCI, 256 MB
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, PCIe, 512 MB
My problem is: when my mac wakes up from sleep, very often (but not always) it crushes to GPU kernel panic.

I don`t really good at analyzing this reports. Please, maybe someone could help me to solve my problem. I want know the reason. Did I correctly undersnand that since com.apple.driver.AppleMuxControl presents in the trace, crash happens when mac trying to dynamically switch between graphic cards? As I know MacBookPro5,2 doesn`t support this feature (re-logon needed).

Seems to work with my MacPro (early 2008) only issue I can see is that I have a Bluetooth keyboard and a USB mouse and I cannot get to the mouse options to change any options.

As a extra how does this unofficial patch actually work ???

The 2009 MacBook Pro line (with the exception of the 13 inch) does support on-demand switching, but it requires manipulating the API directly, System Preferences doesn't offer it by default.

Oh! Thanks, didn't know that. Does it mean that, for example, iMovie, using API can force graphics switching? If it so, how can I disable ability of automatic switching? Or maybe I'm going wrong way?

gfxCardStatus can be used to set which mode you want to use. I would also suggest running a diagnostic check, as the switching issue seems very similar to those MacBook Pros that suffered from GPU hardware issues (which didn't manifest in earlier versions of OS X).

"branch" means developer or public (Do you have a paid dev account and attaining the beta that way or are you a public beta tester).

I have installed Sierra on my mid 2009 white macbook 5,2 almost a week ago, Sunday will be a week. So far it works perfect, it updated iTunes but hasn't updated Sierra as of yet unless the Sierra 10.12.1 update hasn't come out yet. Otherwise it seems like Sierra works great
