Boot to USB installer and run post-install found in the "Utilities" section of the menu bar.
[doublepost=1478048184][/doublepost]
macOS 10.12.2 isn't yet available. Try resetting Catalog option using AUSEnabler. Then run MASmto check for iTunes update. Worked for me.
Could you explain how you even got a recovery drive? I have gone through this process so many times and it NEVER has made a viable recovery drive. The only thing in my recovery drive is a folder named "com.apple.recovery.boot". Really wish I could get this to work.

You need to re-run my post-install tool and ensure that SIP is disabled.
Actually SIP doesn't have to be disabled... at least that has been my experience. It only seems to matter when doing OS updates. Tried with/without SIP and this seems to be true.

Make sure you select "Recovery Partition Patch" in the post-install tool, which should make your recovery partition bootable.

OMG, thanks. Will try it now.

Edit 1 - Not working. But likely because I screwed it up during my many experiments.
Edit 2 - Working. Thanks again dosdude1!

Any chance of getting together a guide of some kind? Would also be really interested in seeing how some of this works. I spent a lot of time trying to get a working recovery drive. Now I am really quite curious how you did it!

I've found that when I create a usb installer with patch tool and 10.2.1 installer from App Store it does not install with error "Insufficient privileges. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again." at the end of the install
Also on MacBook Pro 15 early 2008 (A1260) trackpad does not work with 2fingers and click for right click, 2 finger tap works tho OK, but I don't like having enabled the tap option because sometimes by mistake it taps instead of scroll etc...
I'm thinking of trying to install the kext from el capitan, but I don't know which kext is for internal trackpad, can anyone help?

The trackpad on that model should work fine in Sierra, with full functionality. Is the top case assembly original? If it's the top case from a 2007 model (model A1226), that's why the trackpad isn't working. You can tell by looking at the Command keys... If they have an Apple logo on them, it's a 2007 top case, if they actually have Command printed on them, it's the correct assembly.

You were able to use dosdude1's Sierra patcher on OS 10.12.1? I wasn't able to get it to work. Had to patch OS 10.12 and update from there.

Hello people

I performed a cleaned installation of 10.12.1 using dosdude1 tool on my MBP 15" mid 2009. Just to inform you that everything is working smooth.

Hello dear friends, especially my German friend "schreinerman".

I want to tell you that today my purchased BCM A1342 WiFi-Bluetooth-Modul from a Unibody Macbook 2010 Arrived, bought at Ebay for 8.99 euros.

I installed the thing, in my Macmini Late 2009 3.1 (without screws only with tape wrapped, antennas correctly contacted and also fixed with tape) that holds and sits as well as nicely pinched in there, nothing happens and it rattles in case of possible shaking also nothing.

Macmini Late 2009 3.1 connected and running 1a.
WiFi with 5 Ghz or 2.4 Ghz and Bluetooth all in the best way. So the old crate is fit again.

Just tested with Sierra 10.12.2 Beta1. Also the updates came without problems,
immediately after appearing the beta 1 for 10.12.2.

Had a strange occurrence today. This morning, after waking computer from sleep, I had no mouse or keyboard again. This was after doing all the fixes with iMac being good for over a week. Had to restart from power button. After restart I got the message that bluetooth preferences could not be found. It also stated that a cordless keyboard could not be found. (I have a USB keyboard) Bluetooth was off prior to freeze but somehow turned on after restart. I know because a wireless BT speaker turned on and connected. I shut off the computer, disconnected USB keyboard from USB hub and connected directly to iMac USB port. Restarted. Things worked fine and I was able to turn off bluetooth. Any ideas what could have happened here? Thanks in advance.

I follow this thread from the beginning. I have a MBP 5,5 (13"; mid 2009), and have two SSDs inside. On one disk I was able to successfully install the Sierra PB1 at the time it was released using the Patcher (thanks a lot for your effort, dosdude1!). Now I felt it was time to upgrade to the 10.12.1 final, but it cannot get it to work.

I used the patcher tools 4.18 and today 4.19, and Sierra downloaded from the AppStore using my other MBP from 2010. always the same results:
- installation of the installer on my thumb drive completes successful
- MBP boots uno from thumb drive
- installation technically works; however: the drives to select from show up as generic document icons, not drive icons!
- then, after restart during the install the prohibition symbol shows up, end of story.

What I tried so far:
- reformat thumb drive (same which was used for first successful install of PB1)
- reinstall installer on thumb drive
- redownload installer
- reformat target SSD

Does anybody here have an idea what the issue could be?

Did you run the post-install tool, as described in my webpage?

Cool. *facepalm"

"Wer lesen kann, ist klar im Vorteil", as we say here in Germany, meaning "who can read has an advantage.

Was of the opinion the the post-install tool come after booting into the new mac drive.

Sorry for this - but thanks for taking the time to point out the obvious oversight.

Hey All,

I have sierra installed on my Macbook Pro 5,1 and sometimes if i put my computer to sleep, when i reopen it (usually the battery is drained and i replug it back in) it comes up but the trackpad and keys dont work and I have to hold down the power button to turn it off and restart the computer (I dont have to do the post install, once it reboots they work again)...
Does anyone know the issue that could be causing this?

Hello! I would like to repeat my questions from approx. 3 weeks ago. Perhaps one of you can contribute somehow :)

I am running Sierra on MBP mid 2009; up to now everything runs fine. What I would like to know is the following:
1) What has the patch tool done in my case, so that Sierra can run on my machine now?
2) I installed with Sierra patch tool 4.1.6, currently available is 4.1.8. In which case do I need an updated Sierra patch tool?
3) Is there a possibility to update a USB-Stick with patched Sierra-OS to a more actual/current version of the Sierra patch tool? In this case it wouldn't be necessary to completely "make" an new stick.

1. The only patches done to your machine are bypassing of the system check at boot, and adding LegacyUSBInjector.kext, along with other patches you may have selected during post-install.
2. There's no need to update the patch tool once you've installed, unless there's some significant addition listed in the change log that you feel you need.
3. Most of the changes occur in the post-install tool, in which case you can simply copy it to your USB drive's /Applications/Utilities folder from the contents of the main Sierra Patcher App/Contents/Resources.

Just a guess, but did you update the OS from 10.12 to 10.12.1 with SIP enabled?

No. SIP has remained disabled on the installation and upgrade. Thanks.
Reset nvram?
[doublepost=1478227960][/doublepost]dosdude1, I tried using your updated patch (v4.1.9). It does not create a functional installer when patching OS 10.12.1. Fails during install of OS 10.12.1.

Sedulous,

Not sure if this is directed at me but no PRAM reset. I don't understand the wheres and hows but I do recall reading earlier in this thread that the PRAM reset defeats the disabling of the SIP. Again, I assume that this is a bad thing.

Yeah, was hoping to help. I guess there is something else going on.

SIP isn't a bad thing except if you are using a modified system. From my understanding, SIP checks system files during updates and updates them if something is not what it should be.

dosdude1, still experiencing issues with patcher. The updated patcher (4.1.9) does not seem to successfully patch OS 10.12.1 and it still does not seem to consistently bring up installation utilities menu (i.e. terminal, disk utilities, etc) when booting from USB. The menu bar seems to get stuck on the language selection menu bar. Let me know if other details would be useful.

Edit: Would it be possible to add post-install patcher to recovery volume utilities?

Yeah, the menu bar glitch is actually an issue with the Sierra installer, and nothing to do with my tool. And yes, I am currently working on adding the post-install tool to the recovery menu, and I should be able to get that working sometime in the next 2 weeks or so.

Awesome, thanks so much! I think it will be a useful addition to the recovery drive.

The Sierra installer menu bug... it seems to happen more when the internal drive is blank. It is quite annoying.

Forgive me if my issue has been addressed prior, but this thread is soooooo long.

I was able to update to 12.12.1 thanks to AUSenable on MacBook Pro 5,2 2009. Everything was working fine, but xtrafinder failed to run. Went to disable SIP, but not recover drive exists, so rebooted. Now I have no trackpad or keyboard access. Tried a USB mouse and keyboard, no go. Where to from here?

Your help is appreciated. I did donate to dosdude 1 project as you have given a perfectly good MacBook Pro a second life.

EDIT: I ran the post patch installer and repatched the OS. Have trackpad and keyboard back. I have no idea why that happened.

I have the exact same problems a few while back, and it's because your SIP is enabled.
If you don't know, SIP (System Integrity Protection) is a some kind of a "anti-malware measure" existed since El Capitan that reverts any foreign changes into the system and prevents any change on the system files, basically, the patches are considered a foreign change, thus SIP reverted the change, leading to unusable keyboard and trackpad.

Even if you ran the patch tool again, you may found it wouldn't work again on the next boot.

To prevent that to happen again, shut down your Mac, press power button and then immediately press Command+R to boot to recovery, after the recovery is loaded, you have to open up a terminal and type in "csrutil disable", then reboot, if the keyboard and trackpad still doesn't work, run the patch tool again. After you it working again and logged on, open up terminal once again and type in "csrutil status". It should say it's disabled. In my case, it wasn't disabled when I did that, so I have to boot to recovery once again and disable SIP until it says it's disabled, for real.

EDIT : Oh! and make sure you do "recovery partition patch" if you don't have recovery,.

I shut down my mid 2009 MacBook Pro every night. Only twice in the last month did I get the no keyboard or trackpad found message. A reboot by holding the power button down brought them back both times. Really no big deal for me.
