Same issue for me. Night shift light turns on on schedule but Dark Mode turns on randomly. I think it ignores fixed schedule and enables based on the surset/sunrise…

macOS 14.4 complete broke automatic light / dark mode switching for me

Please do share your experience. I was pondering updating to 14.5 but on the one hand I kinda lost faith that it will be fixed and on the other I'm reluctant to update to major release knowing Apple latest "quality" thus waiting for 14.5.1…

Not fixed for me. Dark mode used to turn on automatically sort of after sunset, and now it doesn't turn on automatically at all. I'm on 14.5.
Still broken here. macOS 15.1.1.
My workaround:
1. Set night shift mode to custom, adjusting the times such that "right now" falls within this.
2. Set night shift mode back to sunset / sunrise.
3. Dark mode seems to be correctly set now.
But every time I have to do that song and dance. Annoying as ****.
Clearly this is a bug because night shift mode itself is being set correctly based on the schedule. But dark mode which is supposed to follow night shift mode's schedule does not.
