macOS 14 Sonoma on Unsupported Macs Thread

OTA does not work with OpenCore, cause macos thinks that the system partition has been altered and loads the full OS.
Well at least in never worked on any of my machines, but this is what I read about OTA not working.

Yeah, I use that tool too to get security updates… the OTA updates did work previously but not since I upgraded to Sonoma.

Well.. I did it again.. put Linux mint on this 2012MBP for about a day and it did bring back my BT module so I could use BT mouse again.. but I just couldn't deal with all that right now, so reloaded Catalina and was having mail issues with hotmail again.. so I took the plunge again. I wiped it and installed OCLP/Sonoma 14.7.7. So far BT mouse working and network. About to start email account configs. We'll see how that goes.
Well, mail accounts setup just fine on this with OCLP/Sonoma. I was on OCLP/Sonoma earlier this year or last year and had upgraded from Catalina with it a couple times, using TM Backup to restore back to Catalina and upgrade again. I then had done it with Sequoia but that that OS did not work well on this old thing. Sonoma was decent. But then the BT mod died on it. I replaced it once and it died again. I threw this in the closet. I just recently pulled it back out and started playing with it with LM again.. Anyway, back on Sonoma and liking it. Just hope the Bluetooth doesn't die again.
Updated to 14.7.7 on macbook pro 11,2 and OCLP 1.4.2 with Intel graphics through OTA. No issues.

I had to do this dance because I did not allow "rm" in the security settings. It is a start up item by OCLP to automatically remove non-bootable kexts in case of an OTA. If you allowed "rm" you should not have to remember to remove root patch before an OTA.
What's happening behind the scenes, is that root patching modifies the system partition by replacing the latest metal frameworks with legacy metal from an older macOS, and also puts the Intel graphics kext into the Data partition. When you boot normally, the Intel drivers works correctly with the older metal framework. But after an OTA, your system partition is wiped and replaced by Apple default one, without the legal metal framework. When the system boots with the Intel kext drivers in the Data partition, it will get stuck booting. You'll have to follow this procedure to remove the extra kext to allow it to boot. That's what happened to me last time.
Basically don't mess with OCLP settings, or if you do, know what you're doing because you will not get support for an unconventional configuration. (Same applies if you install pre-release macOS)

Well, my BT comes and goes on the 2012MBP on OCLP/Sonoma 14.7.7. If I have my BT mouse turned on when it boots, it will usually finally connect and work as long as the machine doesn't go to sleep. If screen locks on battery and I come back a while later, sometimes it doesn't work. It's more reliable when Mac is connected to power. I'll have to start to keep detailed notes.
