I have a 2019 Mac Pro currently running the last version of Catalina. I am wanting to upgrade to the most recent version of Big Sur (apparently 11.6.2). Looking at the link in response #17 above, do I want to download "macOS Big Sur 11 Final Full Installer Download" - 11.6.2 20G314 16.8.20 12/13/21 or "macOS Big Sur 11 Beta Full Installer Download"?
If that is what I need, what do I do then? Just double-click the installer to replace Catalina?
Would this affect any of my installed applications and settings?
If you are looking at the <
https://mrmacintosh.com/macos-big-sur-full-installer-database-download-directly-from-apple/> site, download the 11.6.2 20G314 InstallAssistant.pgk file. (Don't use the beta installers) You then double-click on InstallAssistant.pgk file (it may be in your Downloads folder or on the Desktop, doesn't matter where it is). After it finishes, you can delete it, or copy it to another disk, and you should find that there is now an Install macOS file in the Applications folder of your start-up disk.
Get ready for a half-hour to an hour where you will be waiting for the install of Big Sur to finish. Double click the Install macOS file (it will be deleted as part of the install process).
As far as I can tell, the Big Sur install should not this affect any of your installed applications and settings, except for the music application, which replaces iTunes (was that already in effect in Catalina? I can't remember). In any case, your playlists etc. will still be OK.
I have found that there are some updates (Safari, etc.) that you need to get after that Big Sur install, via Silentknight (download available at <

Except for the music app, Big Sur is very stable, so much so that I would suggest staying on it until Monterey reaches a much higher version number.
