I have the same problem since a few days with a Mac Mini 2018 and Catalina.
I have disabled hibernatemode, but now I can't get it back on when running sudo pmset hibernatemode 1

It started happening when I added either an Apogee soundcard, a Samsung T7 or a Belkin USB 2.0 USB hub. I'm not sure which is causing it as I installed them all at once.

I'v tried resetting the PRAM.

Also, the following issue might be related:
Disabling wake up from bluetooth devices does not seem to work. If I untick "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake up this computer", I can still click my Magic Mouse to wake up the computer. This feature never worked on this computer.

After running sudo pmset hibernatemode 1 and reboot, I get this in Terminal:

System-wide power settings:
Currently in use:
standby 1
Sleep On Power Button 1
womp 0
autorestart 0
hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage
proximitywake 1
powernap 0
gpuswitch 2
networkoversleep 0
disksleep 0
standbydelayhigh 86400
sleep 180
hibernatemode 0
ttyskeepawake 1
displaysleep 180
tcpkeepalive 1
highstandbythreshold 50
standbydelaylow 86400

PS: I do not experience crashes or freezes during use. So in this regard, it is in my experience, much more stable than Mojave which froze and crashed quite often...

In the control panel reset energy settings to default values for both modes (battery and power) then run sudo pmset -g to show current values.

Same issue here, on my M1 MacBook Pro.

Gonna make an appointment at the Genius Bar.

But the panic is for 35 seconds and not 180 and occurs in Big Sur 11.1/2, correct? In my case, Thunderbolt (a Thunderbolt Display) or USB is implicated. Anyone else?

Well, for me it's sometimes:
35 seconds --> Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IOThunderboltFamily.
180 seconds --> Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IOThunderboltFamily.

Anyway, I gave my Mac for a repair. Apple said it's gonna take a week.

When I told the Genius, what's my problem is he said, ah we know this one.

As a solution, they gonna replace my Logic Board under warranty. (The device is like 2 months old) :D

How often were you seeing those panics? Was an Apple Thunderbolt Display connected at the time?

What’s strange is that I haven’t seen the problem for a while.

I hate it when one Genius says “we know that one“ but Apple Support doesn’t seem to!

There was one day I saw like 10 times the message.
Because of this: Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBHostFamily.

About the Display, it was the LG Ultra Fine 4K. But that's weekly 2-3 times.

Hi,
my company recently assigned me a 2019 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar to replace the old 2015 Retina one. I work with external display and usb keyboard, so to use the new one I need a USB-C dongle. Since the dongle also has a recharge port, I'm able to plug/unplug everything with just one connector (at least the dongle hell has some advantages).

Having migrated everything from the old machine (which never had a single problem) config is exactly the same, but the new one immediately started rebooting for no apparent reason while asleep, frequently presenting me the users login screen in the morning and forcing me to restart everything like it was the day before (web servers, terminal sessions, apps, chats... with windows in the right screen). Extremely annoying.

The Problem reporter log starts with

Code:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff8003889d2a): Sleep transition timed out after 180 seconds while calling power state change callbacks. Suspected bundle: com.apple.driver.usb.AppleUSBXHCI

I saw a truckload of threads online about very similar panics, apparently starting with Catalina but still going on now, on all sorts of MacBooks and iMacs. The T1/T2 chip could be involved. The culprit/trigger in my case could be the dongle, but it's still unacceptable. I mean, a kernel panic, for f***s sake. If I forget to unplug it, the next morning the same thing happens. Looks like Apple is not able or not willing to solve this.

Anyone still in the same condition?

I was in this condition until I updated to Big Sur latest 11.2.3. However, it seems not everyone has lucky as me. I use ANKER powered USB bridge with two USB HDD with a 13-inch MacBook Pro, mid 2014, and I have installed OWC internal SSD. This is just FYI, so don't take it as advice to upgrade... but I am glad that I did.

Regards,

I had the same issue with my MacBook Pro 13". My final solution was to use one of two apps available. Either Caffeine or Amphetamine. These two allow you to set the sleep state manually. When I retire for the night or leave the computer for any length of time beyond an hour, I set amphetamine to stay alive for a set number of hours. Amphetamine is designed for the newest OS releases. Caffeine is for the older ones.

When I got to bed at night, I set it to stay awake for 12 hours. You can close the lid and it still stays active. So you never want to do this if you are putting the laptop in a case of any kind because it will build some heat. I monitor my laptop's heat with SMCFancontrol (app) and when I start work in the morning, the unit is sitting at about 34 Degrees Celsius.

Same problem since Big Sur 11.2
2013 late mbp 16G Nvidia graphic card
I had this message: Suspected bundle: com.apple.driver.AppleIntelFramebufferAzul.

Anybody also on Big Sur having this problem?

Same issue for me. I have updated my computer recently after ignoring the update for a long time because I didn't want to restart. Now I'm forced to restart ever day
I am connected to a LG 5k2k monitor via a belkinn hub so and it seems to be happening only when it's connected. I will try disconnecting the thunderbolt cable first before I close the lid and see if this fixes the issue.
It's really annoying, especially when it wasn't happening before the update.

This just started happening to my machine. Started on Catalina, and now on Big Sur, ugh.

Code:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800666143a): Sleep transition timed out after 180 seconds while calling power state change callbacks.
Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBHostFamily. Thread 0x3814a.
Failure code:: 0x00000020 00000014

I'm sad to see there hasn't been a fix found for it yet :-/

I have two HDDs connected to my mid-2014 MacBook Pro, one directly connected to USB port, and the other via a USB bridge within my display (Dell U2415). I stopped seeing this a year ago, and think the panic started when using the HDD via the bridge last week. So far, unchecking the "Enable Power Nap while plugged into a power adapter" on system/Battery/Power Adapter seems to have avoided the panic...

Glad I stayed on mojave , Catalina looks like big trouble
It's been stable for the past year or more - Catalina v6 was the one which finally stopped crashing. Probably when Apple started messing with Big Sur and stopped breaking Catalina.

I still don't trust moving to Monterey yet. Too many reports of crashes on that -- and when I tried in November it destroyed my SSD in a full kernel panic. Before I had 2.8Tb of used 'disc', after the crash it was 600Gb used. A complete erase and restore back to the pre-update time machine backup was required. Thankfully I do take backups seriously.

Still meant I lost 2 days of billing because I couldn't work.

Now have a backup 16" Intel MacBook just in case I loose the primary one -- the M-series doesn't work with my existing VMWare VMs (except for a very specific OS).
