I have a MacBook5,1 running 10.13.6 with the Patcher. Everything works. However, when doing a restart or booting from cold, it does a "double-bong". That is, it plays the startup chime, waits a bit, then plays the startup chime again. It then continues to startup – later during startup it changes from a white screen with a black progress bar to a black screen with a white progress bar – shortly after that, it starts Finder.

Is this normal or does it need a fix ?

Thanks.
I've been getting the double chime for ages. Seems fine.

Hello, i have a Mac Pro 3.1 equipped with an HD5770 Video Card and High Sierra 10.13.6 installed.
High Sierra runs correctly but the main problem is that "Sleep/Wake" option doesn't work. If i stop my Mac and i try to wake it, the Mac itself freezes (black screen). The only option is to force shutdown with power key. Is there any solution to this problem?

Did you find a solution to the sleep issue you were having with your Mac Pro 3.1 as I am having the issue and have the same video card, HD 5770.

Hello, you can only repair this problem by changing your video card by Nvidia series 680 GTX .
I did that and it works fine with my Macpro 3.1…

I have also been unable to update to 002-2019 (I couldn't get 001 to work either for that matter). I have tried all these methods; it acts like it installs but fails at the end. Afterwords, I reboot. The build number has changed, but nothing else actually seems to have been updated (still at safari 12.03 for example). The last update shown in system profiler is 2018-003.

I wish apple would just stream line these updates into the latest download so I could just make an updated patcher (or better yet stop the security update crap and go with 10.13.7, 10.13.8, ect like they used to do).

Is it possible to get the High Sierra installer from somewhere other than the patch tool? I never installed it previously, and it's not available to me in the App Store.

If you have a supported Mac, you can still get High Sierra from Apple:

I have a question. Is it possible to install High Sierra from a supported Macbook Air to a USB drive and then just put this drive into a Macbook Pro Mid 2009 without any patches? I have read this one time somewhere but I couldn't found anything else. So I was wondering if someone else tried this.

It seems the High Sierra Patcher does not work properly under Mojave? On my up-to-date iMac it failed at the step where it remounts the volume, seems it gets renamed to "OS X Base System" and so the rest fails. I tried running it on a High Sierra machine instead and it worked fine.

No, the whole point of the patcher is to apply workarounds to make an installation run on unsupported hardware. It's not just a bypass of the hardware check in the installer.

Yes the update will fail at the end, trying to install the Recovery HD update part of the package, all other parts of it will have been installed. It is not unusual for it not to show in System Profiler, how did you install 2018-003. If the build number has changed then that confirms it has been installed
Safari comes as a separate update that you can download via the App Store.

OK, I tried the latest security update on my MacBook5,1 and of course it failed to install. Where is all the stuff on the drive so I can just delete the files? My build number for 10.13.6 is 17G6030, which I believe is for Security Update 002.

Should I bother running the patcher again? Everything seems to be running fine. Is the Recovery partition now borked?

How about this method: I could install it on an external drive on another machine and then clone it over to the MacBook5,1 and then patch it afterward? Or does the security update still cause problems this way?

That was installed using the app store. Which usually hangs at the black apple loading screen. I just restart it after about 40 minutes or so and it either has been updated or doesn't.

Hello everybody,

I'm new on this forum.

This morning I installed High Sierra (iMac 8,1), I used the dosdude1 method. Everything is oke, only the sound is very loud and there is no wifi. The last thing is not a problem because I use ethernet.
Is there a solution to manage the sound?

OK, after trying several scenarios with the 2019-001 security update, here's what works for me.

High Sierra security updates also update the Recovery HD, unlike Sierra and earlier. That recovery update process is buggy and often fails, but there's a workaround.

If you want the Recovery update:

Download and expand the security update package as in post 1. Then copy four files (AppleDiagnostics.chunklist, AppleDiagnostics.dmg, BaseSystem.chunklist, BaseSystem.dmg) from RecoveryHDMeta.dmg in EmbeddedOSFirmware.pkg in the update package, to the root of a dosdude 10.13.6 installer (replacing what's there), then boot and run the dosdude installer as usual. That resets the system to pure 10.13.6, but the Recovery HD will be the latest. (Remember that Mac OS installs do not affect installed applications or user data.) Once that's done, install the editted security update as in post 1, or simply use "softwareupdate -i -a" to install direct from Apple. Once all that's done, both your system and recovery will be up-to-date.

If you don't want the Recovery update:

Download and expand the security update package as in post 1. In addition to the edits in post 1, locate the RecoveryHDUpdate.pkg/Scripts/ directory and edit the replaceRecovery file. Edit the two lines starting "/usr/bin/hdiutil" to start "echo /usr/bin/hdiutil". Edit the two lines starting "./Tools/dm" to start "echo ./Tools/dm". (In all cases you simply add "echo " to the beginning.) Then flatten and install the update package as described in post 1. This updates your system but leaves the recovery unaffected.

(In my case I don't even have a Recovery partition. Who needs one when you have an installer stick? The second option suits me fine.)

I hope these workarounds work for other people. Please let us know if they do not.

Among my many, MANY jobs over the past few decades, I've been a software release manager. I know how they think. :)
Thank you! Until now, I was downloading the full MacOs image, using dosdude1 patch and reinstalling for every update. You saved me a lot of time.
And even more considering that using DIY fusion drive I couldn't boot the recovery...

Thanks to AsentientBot for this newer more streamlined method.

Go back to Terminal pkgutil --flatten ~/Desktop/Expanded ~/Desktop/Modified.pkg
Using the .pkg extension is crucial.
and then what?

EDIT: for the uninitiated such as me... double-click Modified.pkg on the Desktop to install it :)

Hi. I'm using a Macbook 5,1, and I found it gets the battery empty in a couple of days in standby. It's fully updated to High Sierra. And it seems that it doesn't wake up overnight according to the logs. It seems it is just self discharging.

What is the correct setting for the hibernation mode? I know that it is related with keeping or not the ram energised.
Now mine is 3. Is it right? Or this is for newer machines?

Thanks.

I installed Mac OS High Sierra on my old MacBook Pro 5,3 using dosdude1's installer which I slightly modified. As recommended earlier, I copied four files (AppleDiagnostics.chunklist, AppleDiagnostics.dmg, BaseSystem.chunklist, BaseSystem.dmg) from RecoveryHDMeta.dmg in EmbeddedOSFirmware.pkg in the 2019-002 Security Update package, to the root of a dosdude 10.13.6 installer (replacing what was there).

The High Sierra Installation went well and boots up. But I still cannot boot into the Recovery Partition. I still get the circle with a line through it.

Any ideas on how to get the Recovery Partition to work?

Do I need to run dosdude1's Post-Install Patcher again and select the Recovery Partition mod?

Hi all, took some time over the past few days to revive an old iMac 8,1 machine that had been sitting in the closet for a relative. Installed a new Samsung 860 EVO SSD (500Gb) and already had RAM maxed to 4Gb. Installation worked like a charm the first go around until I mistakenly enabled FileVault encryption and tried to log in as guest. I was then promptly met with the "no sign" which locked me out completely. Took the iMac back home and have tried the following..

- erased/reformatted entire drive (thus wiping any encryption, I think?)
- re-installed HS using the same installation media from the successful attempt, followed by the script for the patches

Still met with the "no sign" after multiple failed attempts at the process above. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
