Hi, for the past several versions of MacOS (including the current one) I have an issue with the Save As menu item in EVERY app so it is a MacOS issue. The Save As screen stretches to it's maximum and there is no way to do anything unless you press Esc to get out of it, then it places whatever app off the screen to the left. How can this be corrected.

See my screen shot when you "Show All Windows.

Any help would be appreciated.

There are sure some prefs that can be deleted, or you can try to hold down the shift key and resize it from the top or bottom border.

Try this.

Open System Settings > Accessibility > Zoom. Turn on "Use scroll gesture with modifier keys". I use the control key. Then hold down the control key and use the scroll gesture to zoom in on one side of that dialog. When it's big enough, try to grab it with your cursor and drag to shrink it. You might need to recenter and drag several times but you should be able to get the width back to normal.

Unfortunately that only zooms in on the active screen and does not zoom in on the Save As window. You can only control the vertical size whreas I need to shrink the horizontal size dramatically.

I don’t understand what you’re saying. The zoom feature zooms equally in the vertical and horizontal directions. Are you using multiple screens? The zoom is centered on the cursor no matter which screen it’s on. It will work.

Unfortunately it takes the small section visible on the monitor and zooms in a small white dot. The left and right edges are never visible when you zoom. So no it does not work. There is no way to get to the left or right edge to get control.

Yes. It zooms in on a small space of the screen. From there move the cursor to the edge to scroll anywhere on the desktop. Find the edge of your Save As dialog and drag it smaller a bit at a time. Drag, recenter the zoom, drag again, recenter…

Ok, let me put it a different way... the function you had me do creates a"Cosmetic" zoom, and not "functional" zoom. There is no way to scroll left or right, or resize the window "functionally". It does not work.

You're going to have to play around with it while you figure it out. It does work. It's a fully functional zoom. You can scroll, drag, and do everything that you'd normally do. Hold the control key to zoom. When you're not pressing control–it's all normal.

If you are sure that won't work for you, try this.

1. Quit the app completely.
2. Open Terminal and run these commands:
Code:
defaults delete -g NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForSaveMode
defaults delete -g NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForOpenMode

If you don't want to use terminal, this will probably work too:

1. Open System Settings > Displays.
2. Switch to the highest “More Space” option.
3. Trigger a Save As or Open dialog — it should now be resizable.
4. Drag the left or right edge inward to a normal width.
5. Switch the resolution back.
