Can I ask is the following what you need to do to soft load Mountain Lion in the 1.1 Macpro after installing ML?

Some useful videos maybe? http://www.google.com/search?q=how+...a=X&ei=6J1xUYu-G8yLkwXc7IDADg&ved=0CAoQ_AUoBA

Some of these seem pretty elaborate and involved but they'e really not that bad when you consider the overall. For example I could easily make something simple like just opening a door into a complex looking 50-step tutorial with long paragraphs explaining the physics and mechanical details - but in the overview it's a fairly simple operation - especially after you have done it once.

Installing ML on MP1,1 is the same kinda thing. The involved details are there so that your 1st time thru you can proceed with a sure foot. But it's really just: Do this, that, and the other thing - and it works. :)

PS: This is coming from a guy who has NOT tried it yet, me.

Hi,
Thanks it would be great if someone else could confirm that server memory is suitable for insertion into the macpro 1.1 , if anyone is actually running their macpro original 2006 model with this memory then please could you post on here.

Thanks to the folks whom have replied thus far , appreciated.

Tesselator is a well respected member and I would trust him 100%
He is also very helpful towards newbies like me or yourself.

If it makes you feel any better I use RAM pulled out straight from DELL PE 1950 I believe, 8 x 2GB working fine.

I used the latest chameleon (imessage and facetime working) and this method

I got ML working 100% fine and rock stable apart from the sleep function.
Not sure if it's SSD related, it does not bother me that much.
I followed this tutorial apart from the kernel boot bit:

What did you do differently for the kernel booting?

----------

Neve had a chance to try myself, but AFAIR 32GB RAM is 32-bit OS X kernel limitation.

Regarding ranks: I don't know even single case when 4R RAM worked in 1,1-3,1. Dual rank do work in 98% of cases. BTW, I've read that Apple has removed 4R modules support on EFI level, but I don't know how trustworthy this info is.

Thanks!

Interesting stuff. :)
