Does anyone have experience with this nvme PCIe card?

IO Crest IO-PCE2824-TM2 (aka Syba SI-PEX40129)

I am looking for a two-blade that is a bit more affordable. I really do not want to pay $400 on a Highpoint/Sonnet 4 blade cards. Thanks!

Your wish has been granted. Look here. Multiple deals abound.

Ok, I think I have my final upgrade list

RX 580 GPU $184
six 16gb RAM (96gb total) $230
Xeon 5680 pair $120
IO crest PCIe nvme card $200
500gb EVO nvme $89
1tb EVO nvme $170
Apricon SATA pcie card with two 250gb EVO SSDs (already own) for scratch disk.
8tb HD drive for Time Machine $100
USB 3 card $25

it brings my total update to around $1200 with tax included.
I think it’s a good compromise giving my MP 5,1 another couple years of solid performance.
it’s the cheapest route I have at this point. Thanks

Have you looked at the 1TB adlink s70 nvme ssd on amazon for $113. It offers the best price/performance for a NVMe disk on the market today. Unless you are going to be writing more then 25GB at once, the drive keeps up with Samsung disks almost 2x the price.

It looks like a good option. Thanks for the tip!

I have to say the latest MBP 16" is really enticing me. I might go that route and just sell my MP 5,1

A system like this would be very strong @$3.4k (edu discount)
2.3GHz 8‑core
64GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory
AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory
1TB SSD storage

Toss in the eGPU and external storage, and there's really nothing that the MacBook couldn't do that a Mac Pro could.... except run 32 bit apps.
