Any current card is incredibly better than the GT 120 that you have. RX-560 is half the price of the RX-580, but the latter has better macOS support, have HEVC hardware decoding with Mojave, probably we will get hardware encoding working too.

RX-560 have some driver support problems with 10.13, RX-580 had only with 10.12, none with 10.13.

RX-560 do not need supplemental PCIe power, RX-580 needs a dual miniPCIe 6-pin to PCIe 8-pin cable.

Hey mate. I installed the card but it looks like I need a power cable. Front page of the booklet says you need power. I'll have to go tomorrow. Do you know if a standard 6 pin to 8 pin pcie cable will do? I'll get googling. Thanks AGAIN :)

OK had to order online so will have to wait. I thought in the meantime I could start the 5.1 flash process but you need OS Mavericks and that is even harder to find than the bloody cable :)

You don’t need Mavericks, just do a clean install of 10.11 and disable SIP.

Mate sorry for the 100000 questions. I'm trying the homebrew but can't get the download going. Sorry man, appreciate your help

First you install Command Line Tools, then home-brew, then mas. You have to be logged on.

sudo xcode-select --install

So looks like I got them all installed but I cant see the command line to download el capitan. I must be missing something

mas syntax is: mas verb MacAppStoreID

To install El Capitan:
Code:
mas install 1147835434

If you already signed with the Mac App Store, no need to re-sign, mas uses that.

I get this error. Looks like I'm not logged in

Test your Mac App Store app, check you don't have to accept terms or something with your account - with iOS12/Mojave release Apple changed the terms.

OK so I tried on my old macbook pro and this time the store opened and asked for my password. That went ok but then it said I can't download as it's not available for this ID or was refunded or returned. So I guess I never downloaded it in the first place back in the day.

Hey mate. So I found a version of 10.11.6 and did the install and then flashed it to 5.1. All went went :) But then I went to play a video and theres no sound. When I try ti turn the volume up or down the symbol comes up but has a stop sign. The joys. Will need to work this out :)
[doublepost=1538836484][/doublepost]Ah its working again :). I'll wait for the power cable to come and then install the GPU. Mate thanks again for your. Really appreciate your help bro.

Upgraded to High Sierra and the latest firmware 0089 B00 :) Love you all

Mojave soon.

Hey. Just wanted to update you all. I went down to Mavericks, flashed to 5.1, updated to High Sierra and in that process updated my firmware. Yesterday my mini 6 pin pcie power cable came and my Radeon card is up and running. Tonight I plan to update to Mojave.

Thanks for all your help, really appreciated. Have a great weekend
