you can crush a macpro in music. If you are tracking bands with a bunch of outboard at 48khz then a g3 plus a old protools rig is fine.
If on the other hand you are mixing on the computer you will crush it. My trusty old quad 1,1 2.66ghz cant even open the "template" I want but i can get my work done so I wait.
I feel a 6 core 3.33ghz would be fine for me but I'm waiting to see the new stuff. I would not be able to do what I do on a imac or macmini. The reasons have more to do with i/o capability then cpu ability but it still stands there needs to be a big box mac of some kind.
