And being called a nerd or a geek is hardly an insult, I agree. Once or twice people have called me one or the other, more or less meaning it as some horrible degradation and I'm like "Hey, cool!" If that's the worst people can call you, you're doing fine.

Not exactly. Both can be used in a positive or a negative way. But usually a nerd is someone that's more socially awkward and weird than a geek. A geek is just someone that knows a lot about a certain topic (not necessarily computers).

From the dictionary:

nerd: a foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious
geek: a person with an eccentric devotion to a particular interest : a computer geek.

That's the same way we use them around here... when I was younger, I was nerdy and a geek...now I'm just a geek...or so I'm told, lol.
