Sure, but people who move here and are disconnected from changing trends tend to favour the old ways.

Light skin is the old ways. It stems from the time when the Aryans invaded the Indian continent. The conquered peoples, the Dravidians, had darker skin and became the lower castes and so those with lighter skin were in higher castes. So obviously everyone wants lighter skin to appear like they should be in a higher caste.

It probably comes as no surprise, but she definitely knows she's hot. Not saying that she's conceited (very sweet and cool, actually), but she's been approached by a modelling agency scout (parents said "no") and has even been courted by Panjabi MC (didn't work out mainly because he had no college education--again, parents' requirement).
